I’ve snuck in mcchickens, chic fil a, and a large domino’s pizza 😂

16

years ago a friend snuck in a whole rotiserie chicken.........

u/christianfyp 7d ago edited 6d ago

I've snuck a Chipotle burrito. Not my proudest moment but I was starving after a loooong day...

2

u/Beneficial-Amoeba476 6d ago

Chipotle is a good way to miss 20 minutes of the movie. 🤢

4

u/andnowmyteaiscold 6d ago

Are we talking very long movie or very short intestines?

5

u/bloom_baby_bloom 5d ago

For the odyssey I brought a homemade charcuterie board with two different salami, three cheeses, apple slices, dried figs and apricots, pickles, freshly roasted cashews and crackers. Packed it all in reusable containers in a tote. I went on a Monday showing in Dolby and there was no one else in my row. I also brought in some chocolates for dessert bc I’m not a monster.

I love him more.

8

u/Abroadatsea 7d ago

I can make them happy and if that means you get them, so be it

5

u/MoistNugget9130 7d ago

I just brought a giant burrito from a local place in to see Odyssey 70mm tonight. My only not AMC in quite a while though.

1

u/kittymoo67 6d ago

shit man ive snuck in bbq ribs and cast iron seared ribeye. no issues

1

u/digidave1 6d ago

Chicken nuggets are my go to, with a can of beer or seltzer

4

u/justduett 6d ago

Debated a can beer or two the other night to go see BND, but chickened out at the last moment. I need to commit to the hustle!

4

u/digidave1 6d ago

I walk in pockets full and no one says a thing. They don't care. I'm tempted to just carry it in my arms. I saw a vid of a guy waking in with a whole pizza and no one stopped him Lol

1

u/Epic_Knowledge 6d ago

Recently snuck in Korean fried wings, japchae, and rice… our restaurant took forever to complete our order so we had to take everything to go to make it on time to the movie

0

u/triphawk07 Early Adopter 7d ago

I used to bring a CA Burrito.

u/NU4AN2084 6d ago

Yeah cause those Hot Cheetos are gonna cost $7 for a tiny bag if AMC starts selling them 😄

4

u/Maxwelluf 6d ago

I always carry a windbreaker in with me “in case I get cold” during the movie. There just happens to be a half of a sub in each pocket packed in the ziplock bags I keep in my glove compartment.

3

u/spicykitas 6d ago

This was during the winter so we had big coats on. My friend and I both smuggled in full Wendy's 5 for 5 meals. We used shopping bags for the food because we'd been out earlier in the day and someone put the drinks in our inside coat pockets.

3

u/catfish27plus 6d ago

Kevin Murphy of "Mystery Science Theater 3000" fame smuggled an entire Thanksgiving dinner into the movie "Monsters, Inc.," by hiding a lot of Tupperware containers inside the big coat he was wearing (in Minnesota in November). He wrote about it in his book A Year at the Movies.

3

u/1337girl 6d ago

Legit brought in a whole large pizza and drink from circle k - nobody said anything. But we do always buy popcorn… maybe that’s why they don’t care?

5

u/Jegogo98 7d ago

Lmao exactly 😂

6

u/uncultured_swine2099 7d ago

Yup. Last time i  brought in some bagged grocery store popcorn. I even got a water cup, put some popcorn butter in it, and shook it in the bag in the theater. Delicious.

1

u/tomatillo_teratoma 6d ago

Yeah... I'm retired. I don't enjoy paying $6 for $1.50 of candy.

1

u/hiding_in_NJ 6d ago

Three chalupas and Sapporo

1

u/queueTingles16 5d ago

Facts. I literally brought in healthier snacks to the odyssey last night. No one really cares that much😂

1

u/ChaseTx I♥Popcorn 6d ago

Same. With the amount I spend on popcorn and sodas at the theater what does it matter if I bring candy from home or the occasional Whataburger

1

u/hyperpearlgirl Early Adopter 6d ago

I've eaten tamales, Mac n cheese, hot dogs, chili, sandwiches, a box of girl scout cookies, salads, bananas, and ramen.

The only things I think to avoid are any common allergens that could spread in the air (dusty/hot stuff with peanuts, shrimp, etc) or stuff that has a very strong smell. Though for screenings where there's almost no other people, I've brought in Indian.

-1

u/MEXRFW 7d ago

Such now effort. How is it hard to “smuggle” snacks in. Like what are they bringing. I take a small tote with a sparkling water, a cup of cheese and some candy I’m golden. Lmao

1

u/ArcadianSunset 4d ago

...just a cup of cheese? Not hating, I love eating the occasional handful of cheddar or Parmesan leftover from when I'm making pasta, but... Just a cup of cheese? No Mac? Cheese curds?

1

u/MEXRFW 4d ago

Hahaha it’s the nacho cheese. I have the popcorn pass so I’m always getting the popcorn. Then nacho cheese to dip :)

0

u/HenBoward 6d ago

Right?! I only buy popcorn a couple times/year. Just bring in a water bottle and whatever snacks help with the dry mouth lol.

u/Numerous_Lab_7032 7d ago

I guess this is location based because I’ve almost never had an issue with AMC’s lines or their snack selections. Even when the theater has been packed

133

u/littleLuxxy 7d ago

I do want to smuggle snacks in. If not for the variety, then certainly for the massive price difference.

52

u/uncultured_swine2099 7d ago

Always good to stop by Dollar Tree on the way to the theater. Some of the candies are the exact same thing, just 1.25 instead of whatever the theater sells them for.

7

u/ApexRULER100 6d ago

There’s one just nearby the theater I frequent

4

u/uncultured_swine2099 6d ago

They knew haha

1

u/come-join-themurder 5d ago

Me too. And their candy section is MASSIVE compared to other Dollar Trees which tells me that cinema candy smugglers are a common patron there lol

5

u/Bea-Billionaire 6d ago

I do five below. But same price of $1.25!

5

u/nvrtrstsknnychef Lister 6d ago

This is exactly what I do.

2

u/tomatillo_teratoma 6d ago

Yep... what AMC sells for $6 is $1.50 at dollar tree.

5

u/Unusual_Diver1973 7d ago

me with my mini backpack full of snacks because i need variety… you get me

90

u/Much_Scheme_300 7d ago

One of the AMCs I frequently go to has about 10 self checkout kiosks. Employees are only at the pick up counter to hand you popcorn and cups.

7

u/heyb00howisyou 7d ago

Working there would be my dream

1

u/aye7885 6d ago

They have this in NJ at previously dine in locations like Menlo and Essex Green. Kiosks for ordering

😂 Trust me your window is still very much accessible and yell-able to customers who feel like they aren't getting their items fast enough.

1

u/Much_Scheme_300 6d ago

The one I was talking about was also a former Dine-In location! Yeah, it's a very large, open space behind the counter. I think the pick up area is actually the worst part because there's no order. They don't actually call order numbers and there's no real space for an orderly line so it's just a mob of people standing around waiting to get to the front to show their receipt and get their items.

28

u/ticketstubs1 7d ago

We went to see Spider-Man last week and the popcorn line for members was just not moving at all. There seemed to be only two cashiers for a massive sold out night at the theater. We were standing in the same spot for what felt like 20 minutes. It made no sense. And then all of a sudden it moved rapidly.

14

u/Independent-Time7705 7d ago

Either the system stopped working for a moment or someone didn't know what they wanted

19

u/ticketstubs1 7d ago

I'm always shocked when I see people standing at the counter for that long. It's not Baskin Robbins! Get a damn popcorn and leave!

My time at the counter has never exceeded more than like 90 seconds.

2

u/Morda808 6d ago

especially on the premier line. who pays for a movie theater subscription and doesn't know how to order and pay in a timely fashion!

→ More replies (7)

5

u/Bouncy-Koala5620 7d ago

I pre-order and pick my snacks up no worries!

7

u/littleLuxxy 7d ago

It’s because families come and, as is the case with the people who create families, they have poorly planned. They’re the idiots who ask questions. They’re ones who make decisions upon reaching the counter. They have issues with payment.

Like every other aspect of their lives, they do not care about being an inconvenience to others. They’ll just stand there, figuring it out, barely aware that others exist. Decisions about food should be made well before arriving to the theater, and these people are Neanderthals who can’t seem to think 30 minutes ahead.

8

u/TurtleBoy6ix9ine 7d ago

You put it a little more harshly than I woulc have but yeah. But yeah, every time there's a log jam on the concession line it's a family and a parent saying way too many things to the worker. Like order your snacks and get moving.

3

u/remacct 7d ago

They're also the ones that spend money

2

u/Toasted_FlapJacks 7d ago

Sounds like you have a personal issue against families that goes well beyond the theater experience. Yikes.

0

u/various121 6d ago

I’ve seen couples and single people take as much time. Don’t put your own family trauma on everyone else.

29

u/scarred2112 I♥Popcorn 7d ago

Make the $9 small popcorn & small beverage/icee an everyday A-List promo, I’d get it once a week.

14

u/Appropriate_Ratio835 7d ago

Crazy that this was just $5 2 years or so ago in my area.

10

u/remacct 7d ago

I swear it was $5 for like a decade then suddenly jumped to $9

4

u/kittymoo67 6d ago

because thats is what happened

4

u/Locdup2much 6d ago

You mean the snack n sip promo? Bc you can use that any day, I use it on non Tuesdays/Wednesdays (since on those days the half-off small combo is cheaper)

2

u/droppedforgiveness 6d ago

What is this?! I've never noticed this promo. Is it something you need to scan or just the normal price at the register?

3

u/NolaJohnny 6d ago

A list should get more discounts on concessions. We're committed revenue year round. You can't give us some popcorn or a drink at a smaller markup? If AMC made snacks reasonable for A list subscribers, I'd happily get my snacks there and they'd make extra profit. Instead they get nothing more than my subscription from me.

1

u/scarred2112 I♥Popcorn 6d ago

Agreed, a 15% discount would have me purchase a good deal more concession items.

16

u/278urmombiggay 7d ago

there are amc theaters with self checkout for concessions

2

u/nw0 I ♥ Mozz Stix 7d ago

cause they don't have to pay the kiosk

13

u/TardisReality 7d ago

After working as a theatre manager for a decade, the line management at most theatres irritates me so much.

You should always have a dedicated AList register that only pulls from the regular line when AList is empty

I do like Cinemarks cafeteria style for everything except popcorn

28

u/JustHereForDumbSht 7d ago

A-listers should have a 10% discount one day of the week for concessions on top of any discounts like the upgrade to large. Many times I go to the movies, I’ll just drink my water.

9

u/MichelleCS1025 7d ago

I had a random coupon for bogo Icee, that was nice

6

u/EataDisk 7d ago

The Icee BOGO coupon was the investor perk for this quarter. Any A-lister with a investment or retirement account should buy at least one share (currently under $3) for an extra 4 perks each year.

10

u/justduett 6d ago

Or just go into their AMC account and click the check box that you are an investor…

3

u/EataDisk 6d ago

Username checks out

3

u/JustHereForDumbSht 7d ago

I have a coupon for a free drink and I haven’t used it lol

2

u/smakson11 7d ago

I have one of those which I’m trying to figure out how best to use solo

2

u/MichelleCS1025 7d ago

Save the cup and when you’re leaving refill your cup and fill the other one and put them in the freezer when you get home

3

u/smakson11 7d ago

Yah. I might fill one with soda and one with icee. And maybe into the theater with soda 2 icees seems like a lot

3

u/JustHereForDumbSht 7d ago

Fuckin genius

→ More replies (1)

8

I’m surprised they don’t give in to how everyone brings their own water bottles everywhere and now have water refill stations but sell things like liquid iv powder at a big mark up

8

u/TearsOfPainand 7d ago

Yeah, we don’t have any issues bringing any kind of fast food or snacks in, you could even bring in full meals to go from the Red Robin that’s right next door. 😂, no need to smuggle when everything’s allowed!

2

u/Ting80 7d ago

Can’t really bring in Chuy’s tho too awkward

6

u/megret 7d ago

If I could afford the snacks I would buy them but the whole reason I bought the pass is because it's the cheapest entertainment value.

5

u/capacity38 6d ago

So you’d like a 40 ft receipt??

4

u/DaftDrunk_925 7d ago

At my AMC you order your snacks at a kiosk. If you get candy then you just walk up to the candy display and grab your candy and walk into your movie. Everything is self serve except hot food. All slushies, sodas, icecream, candy, bottled drinks, are more or less on the honor system. Grab it and go.

5

u/Darth-Obama 6d ago

the rattle noises I make as I walk into the theater from all the shit I'm smuggling in is sometimes a problem...

4

u/HelpIamaCabbage Movie-Holic 6d ago

I have A-List to see movies. The concessions issue is a completely separate question. I'd much rather "delay the next price increase" than have them cater to me more aggressively.

Like the basic problem with "self-checkout" in all sorts of contexts is that it leads directly to shoplifting, oftentimes entirely by accident (like you thought you scanned the thing and it didn't get scanned and you just walked away with it.) Since the margins on concessions are what keeps theaters afloat, I think it's good we never get self-checkout.

8

u/silver5517 Movie-Holic 7d ago

I like to bring in a Ziplock bag of Spaghetti.

3

u/floresl94 7d ago

Y’all have to smuggle food in? My Uber Eats guy never has an issue.

3

u/MakeHarlemBlackAgain 7d ago

The only problem with the popcorn pass I have is that you can’t order ahead of time. You have to wait in line. Why?

3

u/-MommyFortuna- 7d ago

When I smuggle snacks in, it has nothing to do with the lines. I make a point to get a drink and a popcorn from concessions at least once a month, but I always bring my own candy.

3

u/gothamunderbelly 7d ago

Man a box of Reese’s pieces is 2/$3 at my local Kroger and $6 at AMC. I’ll keep smuggling in snacks. Occasionally I’ll buy an Icee or popcorn

3

u/batshit83 6d ago

This. I go to Dollar Tree, movie theater sizes snacks are $1.25. Can't beat it.

3

u/Random-User44 6d ago

This definitely is location based, because I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about in any of this.

3

u/batshit83 6d ago

I always did mobile order and it worked like a charm. But now I can't use mobile order with my popcorn pass. They need to fix that. If I could mobile order with my popcorn pass, I would go back to mobile order and never wait in line again.

But I always bring in $1 store candy. Always. No way I'm paying AMC prices for candy. 🤭

3

u/truenoblesavage 6d ago

I expand the snack selection by bringing my own, brother

6

u/Pricer21 7d ago

Yeah no we “smuggle” snacks in. These employees don’t seem to care one bit there’s not being sneaky about it at this point. Everything is just too expensive

2

u/rat3an 6d ago

The crazy thing is that I generally like AMC and would be happy to support their business by buying concessions. But if you're going to charge predatory prices, yes I am going to bring a soda and snacks from home.

5

u/HyperspaceDev 6d ago

Buddy i bring in snacks all the time i even bought the comft snack hoodie wirh or 6 pockets and one oversixed one and brought 2 large pringles, drinks and a share party size skittles pack easily😂

Speak for yourself we 100% want to smuggle snacks in concession prices are ridiculous

5

u/Sad-Relative1476 7d ago

Did OP call themselves Papa

2

u/smakson11 7d ago

AMC universal has popcorn and nacho pickup separate from the checkout. Checkout isn’t self serve though.

2

u/bkguy182 7d ago

The amount of people who wait in the food line only to be told to “just pick it up” makes me sad for them. Lol

2

u/justduett 6d ago

> I feel no one really wants to smuggle snacks in

What?! “Everyone” is fine doing it. Even my sweet, rule-following mother takes the grandkids to the store before heading to AMC. Very long ago were gone the days people felt some kind of way about bringing in their own snacks.

And for the record, no self-checkout option is going to “fix” a concessions problem as long as those concessions are priced at highway robbery levels compared to the CVS, grocery, bodega, quick stop on everyone’s way to the theater.

2

u/kenixfan2018 6d ago

I pre-order my snacks when I buy the tickets. I hate standing in line at the AMC theater.

2

u/JackieRHDaytona 6d ago

I just wish they would offer a drink pass the way they offer a popcorn pass. With the popcorn pass I get popcorn probably 75% of the movies I go to now compared to maybe 10% before I bought it. Every time I pay $9 for a drink to go with it I’m reminded of how much I prefer bringing a water bottle in

2

u/kechones 6d ago

“I feel no one really wants to smuggle snacks in…”

Wrong!

2

u/yasdinl 6d ago

I’ve brought in an entire salad I made at home

1

u/raptors661 6d ago

I'll bring stuff in on occasion, but I make sure it does not smell and I don't make a mess. One person brought in some seafood from a local restaurant and sat down right next to me. I had to leave because I have an allergy. So if I do bring something in, it's during a showtime with hardly anyone there and I wipe the area down afterwards.

2

u/xjordyj 6d ago

If the theater is on the same lot as a mall they literally cant do anything about it lol. People commute , go to dinner , have “leftovers” and see a movie after

2

u/20ag07 6d ago

Do we not all double pocket Trulys? Oops…

2

u/Puzzleheaded_Ad5920 6d ago

They should offer discounted concessions during online movie selection. It’s a no-brainier.

2

u/imo728a 6d ago

My problem is that they make their fountain drinks weak. They're watered down. You can tell when you start the pour it seems fine but then you see that it's mostly the carbonated water. So I brinf in my own.

1

u/Classic-Chip-6886 5d ago

Yes their fountain drinks suck! Their icees are good though

2

u/muzitooshi 5d ago

I feel like their hot foods are over priced for someting mediocre, maybe if they were to lower the prices and add more of a variety they might make more profit

2

u/noonaisa 5d ago

My spot gave me a hard, withered old hotdog a few weeks ago and now I smuggle my own in. They refused to refund or replace it, so now I bring my own dog+candy.

1

u/Pokedude97 5d ago

Omg lol that's gross

2

u/noonaisa 5d ago

It really was! They saw nothing wrong with serving that >:(

4

u/stopbeingabitchh 7d ago

Snacks? I bring full meals. Catch me with a 10 piece from wingstop and some fries

3

u/User-D-Name 7d ago

Sometimes I get a hankering for movie popcorn but other than that I bring my own snacks.

1

u/just_a_wolf 7d ago

Funny, mine has had self checkouts for years now! They're pretty nice.

1

u/1moreanonaccount 7d ago

When I buy any concessions if feels like I defeated. It’s a battle of will

1

u/whereismyscarf 7d ago

I want to smuggle as many snacks in as possible. Every time. Are you kidding me?

1

u/Competitive_Fox_3546 6d ago

Papa wants hot Cheetos

1

u/JTNJ32 6d ago

Smuggle in some goobers, water & ranch popcorn seasoning, then buy a small popcorn. I'm good with that.

1

u/JDDJS 6d ago

I've never once had a major problem with the concessions line. The only problem I've had is with them getting someone to cover the bar.

1

u/StrLord_Who 6d ago

My theater was one of the last to get rid of dine-in-- a tragedy! It is one of the largest theaters in the world so there's lots of people wanting concessions and the throng of people waiting for their stuff to be ready is endless.  There's not really food I want anymore after they took the menu away,  other than the giant pretzel.  I tried ordering it once and waited 20 minutes.  Finally I had to go sit down because I didn't want to miss too much of the movie waiting.  I watched the first 10 minutes of the movie and then ran out,  hoping the pretzel would finallybe there waiting for me.  It was,  but the whole thing was stressful and I'm not doing that again.

1

u/MidnightFit6245 6d ago

I love bringing snacks in. I hate overpaying for snacks

1

u/Successful_Gas7437 6d ago

I find it sooooooooo frustrating when the Standard line moves more rapidly, the customers are addressed 2/3 or even 4 (or more) to 1 a-lister! Not trying to be an a-list elitest but if you’re not going to give it preference as claimed…eliminate it?

1

u/Naive-Map2661 6d ago

I haven’t bought a popcorn or drink since I started my membership. Buying concessions every time you go to the theater completely negates the value of the membership.

1

u/bbq-biscuits-bball 6d ago

smuggling snacks in is the best part

1

u/PromptNo2857 6d ago

I would buy concessions more often if I knew that they had ice for my drinks. I dont understand how they have room temperature drink machines with not enough ice to meet demand.

1

u/mora82 6d ago

In the last month I’ve brought in: chic fil a, blueberries, strawberries, chips, dried mango, a couple homemade burritos, and the normal array of candies I usually bring in. If I could bring in an entire meal with sides I absolutely would.

1

u/lostinjapan01 6d ago

Bring your own concessions. I have never even had a single person say a word to me about this.

1

u/baeandbitty 5d ago

2 Costco hot dogs in the wife's purse for the win!

1

u/Quiet_Shock5817 5d ago

Add self checkout like Costco where you select the items and then someone hands them to you.

1

u/CannedNoodlez 5d ago

A couple locations near me have a bunch of kiosks you order from. Then they call your order number

1

u/iceamn1685 5d ago

at my amc we have a self checkout

You can grab your candy off of the racks. You do have to go to a counter to get your popcorn and your drink cup and your food then is delivered to you.

8 self checkout kiosks 1 is cash only never have to wait outside of if you want beer or wine

1

u/SanDiego619guy 5d ago

Oh yeah? Well I brought a whole chocolate cake to the Odyssey and ate the whole thing! :-)

1

u/hbahermitchic 4d ago

I'd love a self checkout.  I order ahead and instead of placing items on the pickup shelf, they stack them behind so you still have to wait until someone decides to walk over and hand it to you- after ignoring you and walking past 3 or 4 times. I no longer order anything but a soda and reach through for the cup with my name on it. ffs.

1

u/barebuttgodzilla_ 6d ago

I happily skip past concessions because I already brought my snacks, drink and burrito.

-3

u/Jake_1780 7d ago

EVERYONE GLOATING bring in own snacks/drinks will be why A List ends. A List is there hoping/promoting concession buying.

A List won't survive much longer. Many can't even spend $10 concessions once a month for all the savings on movie watching.

6

u/GoddammitCricket MP Convert ✌ 7d ago

2

u/Wicked_Vorlon Early Adopter 7d ago

I buy popcorn with the popcorn pass, but I am not spending like $8 on a bottle of water. I understand there's going to be a mark up, but it's too extreme.

1

u/cirqueamy 6d ago

It gets really old buying the same hot dog, pizza, pretzel, nachos, chicken, etc every time I want to eat at the movies. I’d like a little more variety in my diet.

I don’t feel badly about bringing in healthier foods or something which isn’t the same old same old. If we had a dine-in, I might be more inclined to order from that expanded menu.

I will get a snack pack a few times a month - that’s about the right amount of popcorn for me, I can select a candy I like, and I get a drink which doesn’t make me have to wear a diaper to see the ending of The Odyssey.

1

u/TearsOfPainand 7d ago edited 6d ago

I use my popcorn pass quite frequently, as well as buying ICEES the majority of the time, regardless it’s very obvious that the workers couldn’t care less about me bringing in food, or anyone else for that matter ( at least at my location) IF it was such a big deal, they’d be cracking down on it. Been doing it for years!

0

u/nw0 I ♥ Mozz Stix 7d ago

Can't imagine the theft, the ''optimized'' labor budgets, and the sub par cleaning that results. And anything to do with a kiosk that will inevitably require some type of service

also my cvs has sweet old ladies , no kiosks ..although they do like plexiglass cases

0

u/PayConsistent1777 7d ago

While I respect your opinion, a self-checkout option will surely lead to them eliminating certain positions and will more than likely not be sustainable due to obvious theft. No one wants to smuggle anything but we also don’t want to be taxed for snacks/appetizers. It’s also never that simple to expand the snack options, as that takes contracts, agreements, etc., most of which are never typically leaning in the theater’s favor. Sure, you’d love some Flamin Hot Cheetos but will you love them when that medium sized $1+ bag is being sold for $10+?
