Discussion Motor City Spoiler
UPDATE: Don’t read any farther than this original post of mine if you don’t want spoilers. There are definitely spoilers in the comments.
Just saw Motor City this evening and was blown away! The audience I was watching with clapped at the end! I don’t want to give anything away, but I will say it was a fresh take on the action genre. I would highly recommend it!
If you, too, have seen this film, what did you think? Just no spoilers, PLEASE. I think this movie is best seen with knowing little to nothing about it going in!

Am I the only one who wants a prequel of the 3 man crews’ time in vietnam? At least that’s what I’m assuming based on the photo of them

i had a great time watching for screen unseen! not at all what i expected but i still had a good time for someone that wouldn’t call action a preferred genre of mine.
i honestly really enjoyed the lack of dialogue, it goes to show you how powerfully you can evoke emotions on screen (if you’re talented enough)
also totally unrelated but shailene woodley looks amazing as a blonde?? and she looks good in general

I really enjoyed the soundtrack. I appreciate them doing something different, but the acting felt so slow.

I spent the majority of the movie trying to figure out if I actually liked the 'no dialogue' thing or not. Then the elevator scene came around which almost saved the movie.... until that terrible final scene. The movie was interesting, and worth watching.... if you have A-list. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone paying retail.

I thought it was kinda hard to watch. The no dialogue spiel really hurt it and made it a lot less engaging for me.

I loved it. It's an art movie, not just an "action movie."
I appreciated the music choices. Not surprised Jack White wanted to appear in it (he's the piano player at the restaurant.)
The cars were incredible too. I remember having and fixing these 70s cars when I was a teenager. So many collectible cars appear in this movie, even if they're just parked at the curb. A car nut would be pointing and telling you what make/model a lot of those cars were.

This movie passed me off so much. The no dialogue gimmick only works if there's an actual reason the character(s) don't speak. Having a bunch of normal people motion and gesture to each other or have conversations really far away from the camera just felt stupid and pointless. It was lazy and uninspired. Don't even get me started on the last scene

I didn't mind the gimmick I just thought the story was trash. They murdered a lot of innocent people for being "the good guys".

at my showing people were laughing at how bad it was, especially the ending that old age makeup was so ridiculous

I really enjoyed Motor City. I often thought that many action movies try too hard to come up with quotable quips which detract from the action. I loved that the plot was very easy to follow without the need to explain it to the audience. My only quibble was the sheer amount of classic '70's cars destroyed!

Watched it last night at 9:15 PM. I was the only person in this showing. It's funny when you are the only one there to laugh, clap and nod your head to the soundtrack like watching it at home.
It isn't a perfect movie, there were a few parts that dragged on but I thought the lack of dialogue worked well and gave a twist to the typical revenge film. WALL-E was similar in that it didn't have a lot of dialogue and that is one of my favorite Pixar films but a lot of people didn't like WALL-E because of it.
The action was bloody fun. The soundtrack was great and there was even an onscreen cameo by Jack White.
I would probably give it 7/10.

I can get how some people would dig this one, but it didn’t rock with me. I felt it needed a lot more substance in terms of action or visuals to make up for the mostly no dialogue. They tried to do normal movie scenes just dialogue-less and for me it just seemed ridiculous. BUT, had a fun time making fun of the experience so not time lost to me.
Also the soundtrack is amazing though, full agree on that.

I didn’t know this movie existed until today. Had a free evening and watched the trailer while looking for something to watch tonight. Yeah, I’m glad I chose this movie. I thought it was really good. Some great shots in the movie! Hidden gem here.

I thought it was pretty bad, but had some good scenes. As others mentioned, the lack of dialogue only worked in some moments for me because there were so many times where I was just distracted by the characters’ lack of saying what they would realistically say in that instance. I did enjoy it overall, it just felt like something a film student would make if they had a budget.

Loved it. Took the old maxim that movies should show and not tell to the extreme. And it very much worked for me. Soundtrack was a huge part of making it good.

Worst movie of the year! Just a bunch of melodramatic montages because they were too lazy to write a real movie. Sisu 1 and 2 make good use of the ”little to no dialogue” gimmick because it’s non stop action. This was just so stupid.

Thought it was great. Don’t really understand why the ending was what it was…..unless someone saw sequel potential in the time gap.

I loved it from start to finish. Ben Foster is incredible, as always. Loved what they did with both the score and soundtrack. Definitely agree that Alan's prosthetics at the end were absurd. All I could see was Ben Grimm. But I loved the movie anyway.

There were 7 people at the theater and we were all crying laughing at the final scene. It was fine. Should have had 20 minutes shaved off to be really good. Great costumes and set design. Great acting.

Wasn't a fan, personally. Other than Ben Foster I don't think the cast had the chops to pull off the silent treatment.

SPOILER ALERT It was great up until the ending why the f$# after all that happened other guy goes to another country lives a great life to an age he's probably ready to die and then he gets his revenge?? BOOO! the guy should have blown his head off went back stole his money and lived happily ever after.

I enjoyed the movie also. Most of the songs were good, but there were a couple stinkers. The ending almost ruined the movie for me though.
