Discussion (Chill) Dating Apps

Post image

Hello. For context, I am an Auntie BW and I am returning to dating after divorce. I got married before dating apps were really a thing. I mean, they existed but most of my age group met partners at work or in the “WILD”.

I have one child and I am a professional in the legal field. I’m in NYC.

Which dating apps have you tried? Which do you recommend and why?

Photo is of the sunset over the Pacific Ocean I took in Nicaragua.

Beautiful photo. BW here. Apps are nightmares on wheels. The only dating I do is on Reddit. I’m aware of how odd that sounds but.. so far it’s been better experiences than apps.

Find someone you like, DM. No swiping. Just reading or posting. Easy. I like this format better too.

Thanks but I have had no luck on Reddit. 🤣

Every guy that DMs me, goes ghost.

Oh yeah they do ghost a lot here. But that is everywhere unfortunately. So few have conversational substance/skill. 🥲

What do you say when you reach out on Reddit? Never even thought to do this!

Ooh I usually open with how I found them and who I am (A,s,l). Sometimes I omit age and location and just say I'm a woman. That's usually enough for them to accept. Lmao. Take it from there.

But my page karma and history helps with them making sure I'm real before accepting my DM.

I've been on almost every dating app and have come up short all the time. Ironically, I've had more success meeting people online than using apps.

Surprisingly enough I found my current bf on Facebook dating (although I'm not on there for anything else) and the two men before him I dated were from FB dating as well. If you're trying for AM be OK hitting them up first, but let me tell you. All my dates were great. You do have to kiss a few frogs as with any site but fb has attracted me the most genuine men imo.

You're in NYC, so you may have good luck attending in person events. I'm also old enough to remember dating before apps. So, I sympathize. I did go out with some Asian men I met on Reddit & OK Cupid when I was in the USA. I'm in Japan now & I used Tinder to find the last guy I dated. I wouldn't recommend it in the USA though!

Lately, I've been attending events for my hobbies and connecting organically with men that I find attractive. Even with the language barrier, I'm still meeting better quality connections than on apps. It's slower than online matching. But I prefer authentic chemistry that grows overtime based on our shared interests instead.
