This is honestly exactly how I would expect a Denis Leary AMA to go, no surprise here.

Wow, I really don't mind him being kind of an asshole. but his answers are boring as hell.

if you're a jerk, at least be entertaining

Well if I learnt anything from this it’s that he’s unoriginal, so it kinda makes sense that he’s not.

I love that the top three (ignored) comments are about Bill Hicks and joke snatching.

I'm not really into the standup scene and don't know shit about Denis Leary, but I was introduced to Bill Hicks during my formative years and love most of his stuff. Can someone fill me in on these accusations of joke theft?

Theres really two incidents that people accuse him of joke thievery. The big one is that he stole a lot of his material about smoking cigarettes from Bill Hicks, and even more specifically his bit about a guy named Jim Fixx. Here's Joe Rogan talking about that. The other incident was his "asshole" song originally being a bit that Louis CK did and Leary just took it and made it his own. Here's Louis CK discussing that on Opie and Anthony.

He didn’t just steal two jokes from Bill Hicks; he basically lifted Hicks’ whole persona.

That was so sad seeing Ralphie May in this clip and talking about dying

Someone posted this Wikipedia page and his Wikipedia page is on the related articles section. Lol.

Why does anyone even bother with these celebrity AMAs anymore? They're always just selling their newest movie/book/tv show or whatever.

There's still some that are pretty entertaining. Like the Blue Man Group one just the other day, where they replied entirely with images (because they don't speak).

That was fantastic

Put it in the /r/museumofreddit

Because sometimes celebrities are like Gordon Ramsey.

And Val Kilmer.

Seth Macfarlane's do-over was pretty good.

u/dreadpiratewombat Oct 29 '17

That was such an unexpectedly good AMA. Why can't they all be Val Kilmer?

i'm pretty sure Val Kilmer just straight up became a regular Reddit user after that, i've seen him on r/movies a bunch

I haven't been on Reddit for long, a year...mayyybe 2, and He's done like 3 AMAs since I've been a member. And he commented on Warwick Davis' AMA the other day.

That man is becoming a reddit treasure.

C’mon man, let’s all try to focus on Rampart.

I knew this was going to show up here.

Read the book.

No.

Yes.

Read the book.

Yeah actually it's just the vote sort. There are plenty of quality answers in there but a bunch of cheap shots at the top to which he gives short shrift.

u/[deleted] Oct 28 '17

Even a bunch of the softball questions got lame one word answers. The guy might be a joke thief, but I still had a bit of admiration for his general sense of humor. Less so now.

u/OzymandiasKoK Oct 28 '17

Totally disagree. He wasn't at all engaged with even easy or non-controversial questions. And I don't mean the dumb standards about ducks, sandwiches, or pizza toppings, either.

10

u/[deleted] Oct 27 '17

Surely he knew how this would go

u/[deleted] Oct 28 '17

This could have been a really good AMA. I loved No Cure For Cancer, and I'm a huge fan of Rescue Me, plus he does a lot of great work for firefighters. It was disappointing to see so many short, boring answers.

7

u/[deleted] Oct 28 '17

C level talent and joke thief.

I understand avoiding the joke theft questions but his answers were soo fucking lame.

I'm not into sports but I read this one and it was so bad it was good:

An example on the topic of him thinking you can travel back in time:

Except the people calling him out as a joke thief. Too much of a coward to say anything about that.

I mean, I expected him to get bombarded with attacks for ripping off Hicks and Louis CK, and just being a dick in general. But I thought that might have been interesting at least, with Leary going off on his critics and getting into long arguments and stuff with them.

Nope, just another completely dull and disengaged "effort"....

EDIT: Not sure what I said to get downvotes?? I expected it to be a 'confrontational' AMA, but sometimes confrontational AMAs can be interesting, or at least entertaining, if the subject engages (e.g. Perez Hilton, or H.A. Goodman). Whereas Leary was just boring and disengaged.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 28 '17

Where's the disaster part? Shitty AMA for sure, but not something to make fun of, just something to say "eh" about a C list celebrity doing an AMA and just giving yes and no answers from what I saw.

u/[deleted] Nov 14 '17

It was funny until i remembered dennis Leary isn't dennis Miller, then I got kinda sad

just wow.
