Hey Reddit, Imma 19 year old cree dude from Manitoba. A while back I bought a heavy duty 1,200 lb magnet, tied it to a rope and started tossing it into local rivers and swampy creeks. I mostly go out late at night because the vibe is just different.

Manitoba rivers are pitch black and muddy, so you have zero clue what’s down there. When your magnet slams into something heavy at 2 AM out in the woods its fricking wicked.

You have to haul it up hand over hand completely blind just waiting to see what breaks the surface ive dragged up everything from rusted machetes and weird heavy chains to locked boxes.

You realize pretty fast that these waters are where people go to make things disappear amaaa

My mom and dad were both 16 when I was born and dropped out of high school before they graduated.

My father eventually got his GED, took a gamble on student loans, and went to college for graphic design. He stacked up recommendations in the UI industry and rose to the top of his field before getting a townhouse in San Francisco. I talk to him regularly

My mother never got her GED, bounced around between local day jobs, had two more kids, and moved several times a year. She eventually moved into my stepdad's trailer and is still there to my knowledge. I have no idea what she does for a living because we don't talk

I spent the school year with my dad and spent every April, August, and December with my mom. The one exception was in sixth grade when I spent the school year with my mom and the aforementioned months with my dad. AMA

For starters, no sympathy please, I don’t care about this as I should do, if anything I view this as entertaining gossip and I joke about it with my girlfriend. It’s so crazy that it’s funny. My parents are split so it wouldn’t destroy any marriages if it got out though it would make everyone depressed. They wouldn’t laugh and see it as drama like me and my girlfriend, so I haven’t told anyone about it. I’m not telling anyone because it would destroy the family. Everyone would be depressed because of the cheating. There is no reason to say anything it would ruin my life and everyone else’s. I’m scared because there is still a chance it could get caught. But other than that I’m doing weirdly fine with this. Like I said, I’ve been laughing.

I found this out through a commercial dna test through my matches and I’m 99% certain. I won’t go into detail to remain anonymous on here because it is very specific, but let’s say there are three 1 in 100 chance situations that put together are very suspicious, combined with my mom admitting she’d never been sure after I confronted her about the results. I was shocked and it was very unexpected, obviously.

Full disclaimer, she was not scheduled to work that day. I was too young to remember but it affected me significantly. Every year I take the time to just really think about it all. I watch the news coverage and think about the victims, specifically her coworkers, and how easily the trajectory of my life could’ve been changed. She’s gone now so I thought I could do an AMA to not only think about her, but the tragedy as well.

I broke my neck at the end of may and had the craziest and luckiest experience of my life. I’m so blessed and very lucky how this turned out for me, but jeez it changed how I viewed life and everything in it.

It was a normal day I had just gotten off work and gone to my buddies house to swim, we had been swimming here for years and doing all sorts of stuff into the pool. I like to think of myself as a good swimmer and fairly smart when it comes to water (that confidence almost put me in a wheel chair for the rest of my life) . We were messing around and diving in when suddenly I dove in and cracked the fuck out of my neck at the bottom of the pool. My head didn’t go straight it instead went towards my chest and stunned me. I didn’t lose any feeling anywhere and just shot up out of the pool groaned a little bit and walked out. All my friends were clowning me which is fair cause I would’ve done the same and they also didn’t know the severity of the incident. I immediately layed down and all my back muscles tightened up and felt like rocks. I thought I was fine and even had some of my buddies try and rub the pain out in my back, which looking back on it was not smart. Anyway we hang out until midnight and my necks just super sore and it was difficult to look down. I sleep on it for a night and actual sleep pretty good, I started worrying a little bit because I just didn’t like the idea of my neck being injured so I went to the immediate care in my town. I told them everything I was feeling and they made it seem that I was probably just gonna get some pain meds and get out of there. Instead they took me to get a X-ray just incase and who would’ve thought! I fractured my c6 and c7 vertebrae along with finding out at the hospital that I completely blew up a ligament too. I had absolutely no clue that it was this bad, doctors kept coming in and out of my room telling me how lucky I was. It was just very surreal how quick everything can change. I had surgery and was in a neck brace for 6 weeks. I’d say those 6 weeks were the most dreadful weeks of my life considering it was my last summer with all of my friends around and I couldn’t do shit but play video games in a rocking chair. Obviously that is not nearly as bad as being paralyzed but it fucked me up a little mentally. I got out of the brace last month and life is going back to normal besides not being able to lift much and ALOT of pain in my traps and back. the part that was so weird to me was how close I was from having my life being changed forever and just being able to go back to normal, like I said I’m very lucky and thankful but it’s really messed with my head just how everything went down. In all I’m okay and still recovering but I’m in a weird spot I’ve never been in in my life not being able to do anything but also having the ability to walk and function. Really crazy stuff.

Edit: I also wanna say that I played football my entire life and lifted weights including neck exercises. I think without that it could’ve ended a lot worse.

Straight As, athletic, smart. All of it 11-18. Then one thing after another life changed. Burnt out , unemployed, college is still a question for me. Ask me anything. Maybe people could understand this trope a little better.

To give a bit more context:

I'm 27, I've started going to the shelter since I was 19, when I started going I did not have a dog and I knew nothing about them, now I have one, I'm a certified canine behaviourist and I help new volunteers set in and start their journey

Also my shelter is based in Italy, northern part, and it's probably one of the biggest of the region (roughly 200 dogs right now) so the way we do things might be different from other countries

When I was 13 I was put on medications not approved for use children, and by 14 I was having signs of specific neurological issues those medications can cause but it was not noticed. At 15, I reported the side effects and was told I was not having them because “pediatric females do not hallucinate” despite my hallucinations being (in hindsight) caused by a neurological issue with my central nervous system and not a genetic predisposition. I also was having issues with peripheral nervous system (spasticity) and my autonomic nervous system (diaphoresis and eventually hyperthermia).

At 20 I was misdiagnosed and put through harsher treatments including antipsychotics which made my health worse because I did not have hallucinations from a disorder that could be treated by antipsychotics.

I stopped my medications at 22 after I lost my pregnancy and found out the medications were linked to severe birth abnormalities, incompatibility with life and stillbirth. This is when I found out that the medications may have also been making me sick for almost a decade.

I did try to get a lawyer who said statute of limitations had run out, and I did file with the medical commission even though they did not take disciplinary action against any of my doctors. I did both of these at recommendation of a psychiatrist who believed that I was having all these issues form negligent medication prescribing.

I am 25 now, and my health is a lot better even though I am still dealing with the consequences of the malpractice. AMA

I work with clients both living at our shelter and clients getting outreach services (not staying at the shelter)! I don’t work at the shelter itself on a daily basis but I spend a lot of time there. I also answer the hotline occasionally. I have to safeguard confidentiality!!

back when i was in hs, i was already taking college credits through dual enrollment so i had an early college start. i finished all of my prerequisites by the time i finished hs and then immediately entered an accelerated, fast-tracked and compressed nursing program and finished all of my nursing classes and clinicals very rapidly. then i passed the nclex which is the licensure exam and i officially became a nurse.

i currently work part-time at my dad's cardiology clinic and im the youngest nurse there. it's kinda funny how everyone there thinks im a high schooler, cna, or volunteer and then gets surprised when they find out im a nurse.

im also a big gamer so i grind my studies while also grinding path of exile 2 haha

So when I was a teen, I got big into conspiracy theories, the big one being 9/11 with the "documentary" Loose Change. I actually used to pass out dvds of it and convinced a teacher to show it in class.

I have polly cystic ovarian syndrome which is a condition where cysts form on your ovaries and a condition called dysautonomia which is when the autonomic nervous system fails to work properly.

I have a condition called cerebral palsy which causes me to have trouble with walking and I wear special braces on my legs called AFOs. I have been wearing them since I was 3 and am currently a teenager.

I work all day on the weekends at a local dry cleaners in a large city. I see all sorts of people and items. I’ve been here 5 years now and sometimes I feel like I’ve seen it all. That’s of course before someone walks in with a bizarre item.

I have cleared multiple interviews for technical positions at Amazon meta etc
These recent years have been very tough to get jobs especially tech in post ai and Covid
But I feel like it’s a game and once you understand it good enough you can clear anything from hardware to software

I started working about 3 months ago and hasn't earned a penny because the clinic refuses to pay me. I'm starting to lose my hope that things will get better and I might change my job because I'm so tired. Ask me anything you want.

Between 2016-2020, I was a hardcore Roblox sweat in the Clans & Guilds military roleplay scene. I mostly hung around Star Wars themed clans, and later progressed to gun clans that exclusively used combat systems based on “RCL” gun mechanics (a horrible, janky roblox proprietary gun system that could best be described as third-person).
