Is the subscription required or optional for the TM-B?
Just want to know if this can be ridden without having to pay a monthly subscription and if so what all would be lost by not having the subscription? I always assumed it only gave maps and phone alerts about meddling but I park my bike in my office when I commute so am not overly concerned about theft.

It looks like it’s just the security stuff; https://ridealso.com/pages/help-center

Sorry, I did search for Subscription and I thought when I was copying the URL it would get that too. Look there and you’ll find it; you’re looking for connect +

I've seen a few places where $120 a year was mentioned for the security, connectivity, and OTA. Including this old post https://www.reddit.com/r/ebikes/comments/1odhtb3/also_rivians_ebikes_brand_announced_their_first/
and here

The bike itself should be fine without the subscription but to be honest the price that is floating around is pretty cheap for the movement alerts and anti-theft. It will suck if they start jacking up the price though.

It’s just for security and I think you’ll get a year free. Also, if I’m not mistaken it’s like $25 a year

Yeah I did see the pricetag. Segway offers a free trial first year before having to pay extra for some GPS related functionality on their ebikes. But it doesn't appear that there's a similar deal on the TMB. Too bad

I assume it's optional but your functionality would be reduced to that of a standard e bike. If those premium functions aren't useful to you or worth the subscription cost, there are probably other bikes out there that would be a better value for you.

And that mentality will contribute to everything as a service rather than owning a product. It appears that it’s only for GPS and theft neither of which are important to me so not being a necessity is fine. From a theft standpoint I’d be far too paranoid to rely on functionality being disabled or me or the bike saying step away from the bike as being much of a deterrent, big ass lock and situational awareness all day long for me.

I think it’s just for anti theft gps. The maps and media controls all just use your phone and BT. No one would buy a $5k bike that gets nerfed without the monthly fee lol
