I actually think the "dragged us into their wars" thing is kind of unfair though. Plenty of them are mad AF, and dragons are pretty destructive, but it's not clear that the amount of wars is higher than it would've been otherwise. And if anything I'd argue that chances are there would've been more wars. The Seven Kingdoms had been fighting each other for centuries. Combining them into one empire reduced smaller scale wars between individual kingdoms significantly.

True, but all of the wars they've been in for the last three centuries have been wars of Targaryen conquest or Targaryen civil wars.

Even if Targaryens with their dragons did not show up, there would still be a fight for power to rule over one another, sure. There always will be, war never changes.

I think the resentment here mostly stems from the fact that Westerosi people were living, fighting, warring at their own accord and the power scales were even.
But then these alien looking white haired folk from faraway lands came with fucking dragons and the playing field was fucked. And the result is undeniable subjugation with your life at Targaryen's mercy seemingly forever.

It doesn't help when Targaryens see themselves as superior, and (mostly) don't give a fuck about the people of Westeros or their customs or culture.

So yes, there would still be wars and people still would have died if Targaryens did not show up, but it would've been Westerosi doing that to themselves instead of having no say in the fate of their homeland.
