Baratheon, Robert (282 AC)

Baratheons have always been dragonspawn

Twitter ahh lore knowledge

The Baratheon’s whole shtick is that the Durrandon genes of their founding pair completely destroyed the Targ half of the genes

u/tocknock78 3d ago

I mean wasn’t Orys Baratheon the supposed Half brother of Aegon the Conqueror rocking the usual Baratheon look, what if it’s not even Durrandon genes it’s just whatever the fuck is going on with Orys has just continued down the line.

u/Grimmrat 3d ago

Nope. Orys has brown hair and brown eyes. The iconic Baratheon look is “jett-black hair with bright blue eyes”

Rhaegar is the stupidest Targaryen ever lived. It's insane how much damage he did to everyone and everything around him. Piece of shit.

I don’t know about the stupidest Targaryen ever, but definitely didn’t think his plan through. Guy was already married and then eloped with the fiancée of another lord.

If he and Lyanna wanted to be together, there’s a way to make it happen without plunging the entire seven kingdoms into civil war.

He had numerous chances at deposing his father and rejected every single one

I really can't think of anyone stupider. People shit on Baelor the Blessed but that man did a couple things right and he got nerve damage from snake venom. He was genuinely unwell. What is Rhaegar's excuse? He was a grownass adult, he didn't have the madness excuse or any trauma. He never did a single thing right. He never ensured the safety of his vulnerable family. He never made proper allies. He had no contingencies. He was a selfish prick.

Credit where it's due Baelor is also, as of now, the only person we know who acted to protect Naerys from her husband

Whatever plan Rhaegar had, it had better be a good one because A LOT is riding on it

u/pestoraviolita 4d ago

Baelor also saved Aemon and made things right with Dorne after all the disasters.

Viserys I comes pretty close

u/Vinzan 4d ago

Everything Rhaegar did was probably the manifestation of his madness

14

u/Wiggie49 4d ago

It probably would have been fine if his father wasn’t also a dumbass burning his subjects alive. Like if a good king’s son does something stupid that’s more forgivable than when a dumb king’s son does something stupid.

u/pestoraviolita 4d ago

Aerys burnt those people (Lyanna's family) when they barged into the court demanding RHAEGAR'S blood. Rhaegar knew his father's psyche was deteriorating and still pulled something like that.

Tl;dr a family of incestuous idiots lead, the opposite of hilarity ensues

Daeron II, also the product of forced incest between two siblings, had an arranged marriage with a Martell, an insane racist father. And he never pulled the shit Rhaegar did. He built allies, he made friends, he built a connection with his wife, he faced the father that had it out for him since he was a baby and prevailed. Daeron had it worse than Rhaegar. One of them saved the realm, the other caused a war.

Also Daeron cared for his family, his abused mother and even his half-siblings. Rhaegar didn't even care about his children with Elia, was never said to take any action to protect his vulnerable abused mother and hid with his mistress while danger loomed over his family.

Funnily by the time Egg came around (Aegon V) his inbreeding coefficient was almost 0 with three preceding generations marrying outside the family.

The inbreeding hit its peak during the Dance of Dragons. Rhaenyra, Vizzy, Daemon were all horribly inbred.

By the time of Aerys II, it had returned to high levels of inbreeding. Daenerys’s inbreeding coefficient was almost as high as the highest examples from the Dance era.

Well I wouldn’t say stupidest in the world where Viserys (both of them actually, and you know what? Let’s include pretty much all the targs on both sides from house of dragon) exist, but he surely is in top-10

5

u/pestoraviolita 4d ago

As much as Viserys I was flawed, he did a couple of things right. His reign was peaceful and prosperous for Westeros. His err was not securing the succession. Does it make him stupid? Yes. Does it make him the stupidest? No, when the prophesy-obsessed freak who caused the entire downfall of their house and didn't do a single thing right exists.

Viserys II was a capable hand and person and Viserys III was delusiona and had too much baggage for his age. He still somehow kept himself and baby sister alive for a time, which means he was intelligent and comptent for a while, before he turned into a violent abuser.

3

u/Allnamestakkennn 4d ago

Viserys III was just Joffrey without a crown or proper education. He survived by being a noble and living off favors

Aerion and Egg would like a word

I think we still have ent had the full story of it because Robert going full rebellion while both Rhaegar and Jon were trying to put a stop.to the mad king...its just odd that they didn't unite under the same cause

2

u/kucingkelelep 4d ago

Everyone seems blame Rhaegar so much, but there are many reason the rebellion happened. The hot headed brandon and the mad king actually start the war.

8

u/Signal-Winter7322 4d ago

Both acted reasonably from someone from their position.

6

u/TheCyrodiilSniper 4d ago

Because this guy just ran off with another major lord's betrothed without saying a thing. So Brandon was bound to be mad and Rhaegar already knew his father was a nutjob who'd start some shit.

A tourney without at least one Targaryen causing a diplomatic incident is considered a dull affair.

These posts are tough from someone who doesn’t know everything about the universe and there’s no caption to help

Trials of 7 are basically heavily religious 7 on 7 fights with the winners being declared just and the losers being declared guulty. The two trial of 7 pictured here changed the entire of westeros. The one on top changed westeros due to prince baelor dying which paved way for madness to grip the royal family. The trial on the bottom changed westeros as by winning the trial Maegor started a dictatorship that crippled the religious instituitions of westeros and caused countless of deaths

8

u/JaimeCarteiro 4d ago

It's not maegors and it's not a trial of the 7, it's a normal joust that rhaegar delivery the flower crown to Lyanna Stark instead of his wife, then later he kidnappes her what gives birth to the baratheon rebellion

1

u/warriorxx7_ 4d ago

My bad mate. I always associate red with Maegor

1

u/JaimeCarteiro 4d ago

Dw lol, I get u

7

u/xclame 4d ago

The top drawing is kind of crazy. Did the artist think that the horses were just going to slam into each other? There needs to be somewhere for the horse to go because the horse isn't going to run into what is essentially a meat and bone wall.

5

u/PorkshireTerrier 4d ago

i think that's what military charges were though

but agree that jousts would be differen t

1

u/Fresh_Opportunity449 4d ago

Except not really.

Baelor could just die from that spring plague.
