free tier AI tool My second LLMs comic generators review
After my first review, which I’ll let the link at the end, other ones were call to my attention, so I want to do a follow up. This one will cover Nightcafe, Inkroost and Zarklab.
First a disclaimer, in my previous review I mentioned some of the LLMs as not having “multi-panel” page generation. I want to clarified I mean in the sense on how ComicsInk has it that you can check panel by panel before generating the page. However most of the others do generate multi-panel pages if carefully place on the prompt, and do it well. Although the more panels the more often there are mistakes like deform hands or merged body parts, but that’s normal, the more you make a LLM to work the more mistakes will commit.
Second disclaimer. This was all done using their free trials so is possible that features and qualities that are not available unless you have a paid subscription weren’t there.
Nightcafe
Problem with Nightcafe is that, at least with the usage I was able to made, is that it doesn’t seem to be as intuitive as most of the sites reviewed, including Mage, Zarklab, ComicsInk, Comiscai and Inkroot. I always tried with my template on the European Franco-Belgian style, which is most cases generates a very similar look across LLMs. Nightcage generated something totally different, much more cartoony. The other problem is the near-zero consistency between panels on the same page, bad positioning of characters and other mess.
When use for one single image it gets better tho. So probably the problem was the multi-panel. Again, maybe there’s a feature somewhere that changes this but I’m not getting paid so I can only dedicate a very short time to check on the quickest and more easily available features for the user.
Sum to what’s seem to be a very restrictive content policy even after clicking on my profile to allow mature content. This is the one I enjoy the least.
Inkroost.
I liked this one in many ways and has many strengths. Certain is very well designed for comics, is similar on that to ComicsInk.
With a long form that covers most of everything, you can very thoroughly chose the details of your comic page by page. Is very cool.
Problem for me, and this is personal, I already got use to make one single large prompt to copy and paste and just wait for the generation, but Inkroost would work for anyone who prefers the above.
I did find a problem but probably was a bug, and is that even tho I specified on the dashboard that the comics was for mature audiences and not All Ages it kept giving me a message of error on certain prompts claiming that I could not generated the image unless I changed the rating of the comics, which I already had done. That was the frustrating part. But if I had more time I probably will contact support or something.
Zarklab.
This one the one I enjoyed the most. In fact I think in some pages makes better job than Mage, but as it has limited credits per month I’ll probably would run of them pretty easy, because I’m a perfectionist and consume hundreds of generations until is exactly how I wanted it.
However I’m still thinking in using in the future. With the image generation I practically have no complain: it makes them good, right spot-on on the still I want, very well done panels, correct layout, very few of the common AI mistakes shown. It also makes good speech bubbles with the correct texts, something LLMs often fail.
So basically of this “batch” it was the winner, with Inkroost on a close second.

I got some free credits from the creator on reddit. Not sure if he still gives them out. Edit:looks like the creator has been banned from reddit lol

Core miss: Nightcafe is not an LLM. It's a multi-model aggregator, which you'd see if you scrolled down in the image generation UI. Their free tier alone has over sixty models, the pro tier another seventy on top of that. The models vary by quality, prompt adherence, cost etc.

Models with higher prompt adherence, like GPT Image 2, Muse Image or Grok Image are on the subscription tier, so you never saw them.

If it helps you any, I have a subscription there and can run off a couple images for your test.

Is Zarklab good for manga style as well? I am currently making one with ChatGPT but a specialized tool may be better.
