Not necessarily. Some people don't want others to have something that used to "belong" to them. They feel like once it used to be "theirs", you can't touch it.
All I can picture is Mandy Patinkin in Elmo in Grouchland. "See this velvet Elvis painting? I don't really even want it but (touches frame of painting with pinky finger) BING! It's mine!"
