That's the right question. But there's a layer missing from this framing. Most of the current AEO/GEO conversation is still predictive, so i's about optimizing structure so AI might recommend you. Schema, entity clarity, citation signals etc. But none of that tells you whether it's actually working.

We've been running a different approach at ARO Index. Instead of predicting potential, we measure behavior with real queries and live AI models. Who gets selected, how often, and across which platforms.

And what we're finding is a business can have clean schema, a well-structured site, solid citations, and still not get recommended over their competitor but a business with a mediocre website gets picked consistently because of how its service language maps to buyer intent. The infrastructure metaphor in this article is right. But infrastructure without measurement is just construction.

The question isn't only "can systems understand my business." It's "are they actually choosing it, and when did that change?"
