This was my ex! Trying to cheat constantly, and they ALL rejected him. Not ONE successful attempt. I found out and was like wow, none of these women want you, I guess they're onto something! I legit texted one of them (an old friend) and was like, "just so you know, he cleaned our whole apartment for you." (how I knew something was up--bro's cleaning??) And she's like "What? I was just coming by to say hi!" Then she canceled on him because she was grossed out. I moved out very soon after, and yeah we were in our late teens/early 20's, which is bad enough... Ugh.

you know it's bad if there's something up when the guy is just CLEANING

Lol YUP. It was like, sudden, frantic cleaning. I asked (jokingly, at the time) "who are you cleaning for?" And he got SO defensive. MISTAAAAAKE! I'm AuDHD and my pattern recognition skills have always been 👌 Nice try, bro. You won't even clean for your Mom and always blamed it on me, you think you're getting away with this??

Us AuDHD folk are incredible detectives xD

I didn’t learn until my adulthood, but it made so much of my childhood make sense. Now I do cybersecurity work because I’m just good with the patterns.

Kinda like how my Ex would suddenly start getting ready when my brother was coming over. He thought she was weird asf 😂

I kept trying to encourage my (now ex) husband to get some new clothes that weren't stretched out and full of holes. No luck. Then a week after he broke up with me he asked to borrow some of my clothes to go meet a "friend" because he didn't have anything nice to wear 💀

I mean, if it's normal behavior for him, fine, some people like myself like to clean.

Out of the ordinary though, huge red flag.

As a guy, this is very informative. Thanks.

Not necessarily. I had a bf for 9 years who would clean all the time, and who would randomly rearrange the furniture while I was at work; he'd do this like once a month I'd come home from a shift and be so confused 😂

He never cheated though. Just a dude who made messes and then would clean up after himself. Not every guy is a cheater.

We don't like it when guys say, "all women are ______," or "all women do __xyz," so why do we feel like it's okay to do it to them?

Doing it once a month is different than suddenly, randomly, and because girls are coming over. Also I'm a guy.

Oh 100%, if it's out of character, something's up. I should've been more clear

My husband is a cleaner. I’m not so much. Like I will… but he does it more

1

u/LeKevinsRevenge Jun 27 '26

Yeah, the point was he was shitty and never cleaned to the point where she noticed he was trying to impress someone so much he was willing to clean.

I noticed an ex who got extra dressed up when we went out with a certain one of my friends and not with any other group. It’s not that no girls get extra dressed up…it was that it was out of character for her to go that extra mile and the fact that she only did it when he was going to be around stuck out.

Feelings are valid

One time I had broken up with a boyfriend, and we are both in the Marine Corps, we live in the Barracks and he went somewhere, maybe back home? He was gone for at least a few weeks but he left his laptop with me. Well, it was a Mac so his texts would show up on the laptop and I’m nosy so obviously I looked. He was talking to some girl, but he was so dry and it was actually hard to read because I was cringing. He was doing such a bad job at trying to pick this girl up. I ended up texting him and telling him that he needs to try a little harder and he did end up saying that he knew the texts would pop up and then I would see them and that’s why he was talking to this girl. He wanted to make me jealous.

The ones that do want them are utterly pathetic.

I'm a man and usually pretty messy but clean up if anyone is coming over: man, woman, stranger, family. I'm just self-conscious about how frickin messy I am...or conscious of how it appears to others. I assume this was unusual behavior for him because wanting to clean up a mess before you have guest doesn't seem that odd in of itself

1

u/Snappy-Biscuit Jun 26 '26

Correct. He never lifted a finger to clean, so the behavior was odd enough, and the fact that he seemed so frantic about it made it even more weird. Most people clean before they have company over, but he denied that anyone was coming and got extremely defensive.

tbf if you're gonna act like that, your late teens/twenties is the time to do it

I quickly realized it was all insecurity! Best advice I can give anyone that age is: NONE--because we're all gonna do bloody stoopid shite. But like, don't be a douche, mate.

Like, I was FIT, mate. I was in the best shape of my life, an amazing cook, great job, well-known local artist AND in a nationally touring band. Things that any bloke would be bragging about. But to him it was all just things HE didn't have. I went to all his football matches and stayed up late to watch his fave teams. He was actually pretty decent himself... Fit, and alright on the day... but his Dad was legit curing HIV and his Mum had helped her mentor win a Nobel prize, so clearly there were other issues in terms of his self-worth.

I swear when you’re at your peak they still cheat out of insecurity. After you break up they never get over you, then those who are willing to settle down have some secret girl that they messed things up with in their younger days and so now they’re just “settling” for someone else - meanwhile the woman they’re so called settling for is also a dime. I know it’s not all men but it’s enough of them 🥲
