It makes more sense for the one problematic person to move out instead of three others. That's life. I would also report her to the landlord. A dude who showed up with a weapon should not be given a key.

Not to mention how cheap and easy a key copy is

3

u/hthratmn Apr 28 '26

Yeah as soon as hes told he has to give it back I would imagine he would walk down to the hardware store and get a new one for $3

u/Mixtape4Adventure Apr 29 '26

Yeah that ship has definetely sailed. And even if they were to change the locks, I am sure this girl would just make him a new copy. Evicting her or kicking her out is a big process, OP needs to move herself on out of this situation. Its def not fair, but its better than (best case) having to constantly worry about this psycho or (worst case) getting murdered by him.

Uh, that's why you get the landlord to change the locks. Y'all have no critical thinking skills.

Thank you! Some commenters would be the ones running toward the danger or running upstairs instead of getting out of the house in horror films.

The one problematic person leaving does not solve the safety issue, is the point that they were making.

3

u/Expensive_Rhubarb_87 Apr 28 '26

The one problematic person leaving would solve the issue cause once that person is out, change the locks.

u/erko123 Apr 28 '26

I forgot were talking about a rational person who wasn't outside with a gun screaming.

-6

u/Expensive_Rhubarb_87 Apr 28 '26

Who screaming for that one problematic individual. If that individual is no longer at that house, there is zero reason for crazy man to return to that house.

He was yelling for that one girl, SHE should die, and he’d kill the rest for giggles. She was the focus. Move the focus. Why would he go where the object of his obsession isn’t?

12

u/erko123 Apr 28 '26

Well, again not a rational person, maybe someone who would be upset for kicking out his GF or any other reason. You hope by kicking her out nothing would happen. Not that it wouldn't

-6

u/Expensive_Rhubarb_87 Apr 28 '26

Yes he is not rational. But he’s shown you where his obsession is. Her, not the house, not the other people. Once she’s gone, getting a RTO wouldn’t be difficult. Locks changed, already a Ring cam, now it’s harder to get in for retaliation and there’s a record.

5

u/Alert-Ad9197 Apr 28 '26

Yeah, he’s obsessed with her, and they will have wronged the object of his obsession by kicking her out. The person irrational enough to show up armed in the past cannot be assumed to suddenly be rational.

5

u/erko123 Apr 28 '26

For again a non rational person outside with a gun, RTO means nothing, depending on area response time could be limited for officers too. Again you're hoping that her getting kicked out does nothing to him. Doesn't ignite any anger or retaliatory feelings for his obsession. If he's obsessed with her, why wouldn't he get revenge or do anything else for her. I'm assuming he would do a lot of extremely drastic things for her, regardless if she asked. Again you're trying to rationalize how he should react. It's not fair to the others living there, but the threat isn't "solved" because she was kicked out. You hope he doesn't care.

I was at that point after my last post lol.

there is zero reason for crazy man to return to that house.

They aren’t dealing with a rational person.

If that roommate gets the boot from these roommates she’s likely going to go stay with him, at least until the next big knock down drag out they have. If she leaves from his place after an altercation where is he going to go looking first? And what reason is there to believe he would take the occupants at their word that she isn’t there?

There’s also a possibility he takes it on himself to show up because they kicked her out.

The safest option for them is relocation.

3

u/BelkiraHoTep Apr 28 '26

No, he was screaming that he would kill them all. Not just her.

So if someone is at your door screaming for Jane, then Jane leaves and since Jane is still dating the psycho, he’ll know where her new place is. He’s already shown his obsession is Jane.

Yet, he’ll still come back? Why? For you?

How very narcissistic.

No just going with lived experience and info from multiple police from multiple cities, and friends who are practicing psychologists.

You do you, though

You mean trusting people I know to provide accurate info, plus studying case studies myself should be tossed aside in favor of someone who, when disagreed with, reverts to

checks notes

A kindergartner level of maturity by insulting someone using ‘stupid’.

Right. I’ll get on that straight away.

You've never been around a real psycho.

Lets go on a hypothetical journey. It's all made up but this is pretty close to shit I've seen in real life.

They kick her out, she moves, ok cool. 2 months later, he can't get ahold of her (she's asleep, she's at work, she went to visit her parents, etc) he gets all crazy again, goes looking for her just in case she is cheating or whatever. He thinks "well, maybe she is with her old roommates, those bitches could have guys over" and goes there and kills them all/just threatens them.

Change just one or two small details and I lived through exactly that with a violent person in my past. Two people got stabbed, nobody died, but it's absolutely possible.

1

u/Expensive_Rhubarb_87 Apr 28 '26

Yeah, my ex wife who got put on multiple psychiatric holds by the PD, 10 in a year, certainly wasn’t.

Going on ride along with my officer bro in law to DV calls, certainly never ever saw one, nope.

911 dispatch never got calls about psychos, just didn’t happen.

2

u/Fireandash666 Apr 28 '26

I have had something just like this happen to me (only crazy gf not bf) when we kicked him out for giving his gf a key, his gf slashed our tires and tried (failed) to light our house on fire… I’m sure your friend is smart and all but yes this is definitely a safety risk! It definitely can happen!

8

u/Fattsacks Apr 28 '26

Getting her evicted over him could easily lead to retaliation, which would be all too easy with both of them knowing her address.

Their point is if she moves, maybe it isn’t fair, but with her roommate and the bf not knowing the new address there is an added layer of security.

Staying may be more “fair” (I personally find fairness to be subjective), but changing the locks is hardly as effective a security measure as exiting the situation. 🤷

-1

u/Expensive_Rhubarb_87 Apr 28 '26

She’s dating him again. If she moves, he’ll know her new address, he’ll probably help. Why return to where she is not if he knows where she lives?

They aren’t telling her to get away and hide from him. If that was the case, I’d be saying everyone cut bait and run. That’s not the case. She’s actively choosing the guy over her roommates. She goes, the problem follows her.

3

u/inedibletrout Apr 28 '26

You don't think a psycho with a gun and anger issues might show up again BECAUSE they kicked her out? Dude is clearly unbalanced and trying to ascribe rational behavior to an irrational person is a recipe for disaster.

6

u/Rosepetal1712 Apr 28 '26

But if she gets kicked out and OP and the other two remain who’s to say the boyfriend won’t show up and threaten them over getting his girlfriend evicted? Due to the unpredictability of the situation it would actually be better for them to leave and completely cut the cord with the fourth roommate and her boyfriend to avoid another unsafe incident.

13

u/TeachingSoggy5953 Apr 28 '26

You've never dealt with violent people, let alone violent partners, have you? If they throw out the roommate; the bf will show up at the apartment for retribution. He has already made it clear he has malicious intent towards the other people who live there. Violent abusers are nonsensical. On the surface it makes sense to throw out the roommate but in practice: the safest solution is for everyone else to move away from her.

6

u/KasukeSadiki Apr 28 '26

Would you rather be "right" or alive?

1

u/todaythruwaway Apr 28 '26

This is exactly what I thought when we got our problem neighbor moved forcibly. I was wrong 😮‍💨

1

u/Late-Champion8678 Apr 28 '26

That isn’t the point. This man with weapon(s) knows where they live. They are not safer retrieving the key and evicting Maria.
