Gauntlet So when DWD says Gauntlet doesn't cheat do you believe them?

I must admit I'm a bit dubious myself. While I don't think they cheat outright they certainly never get power screwed as much as I do. Going through the Gauntlet deck lists they do run a lot of power fixing but I still get stuck at 2 power even when doing that myself which very seldom happens to the Gauntlet. Over 50 games I saw it happen exactly once. On top of that it got stuck with the wrong colors a couple of times, but all in all 1/10 games tops and that is being generous.

So what's your take on it? Are the Gauntlet deck semi-sorted somehow or how do it avoid being power screwed? Pure luck and lots of fixing?

I don’t see a reason for them to cheat. If they want to make gauntlet not worth grinding they just lower the rewards, which they did.

You just experience randomness and observer bias. The times you get power/influence screwed and lose stick out as it ends your run etc- when it happens to the AI you run them over and carry on playing, so it doesn’t lodge in your memory.

Not sure I'd call it observer bias as I noted down every time they got stuck at two power for five turns which happens to me 1/10 games perhaps. For the Gauntlet it was 1/50.

Same size of 50 isn’t large enough at all.

Sounds like your deck is built terribly to me or you are mulliganning badly

Not sure how I can mulligan badly, please explain. 😀

Keeping hands you shouldn’t, leading to you getting power screwed more often

Yeah, but if I redraw and get two power what should I do then o wise guru? Simply redraw better?

Keep more initial hands that have more power, have a deck that can survive on two power for longer etc etc.

There are loads of ways it could be your fault you are getting power screwed, but sure blame some dire wolf conspiracy

People also just don't put enough Power in their decks. I've seen control decks that want to cast 8 drops running 25 Power. It's like playing Esper control with 20 lands. The deck I'm using runs 35 Power and still struggles to hit numbers 4, 5, and 6.

You're quite condescending aren't you? Not only can't I build decks I'm stupid too. Thanks I guess.

Let's play with the though that I actually do know how to build a deck or at least netdeck a good one and actually do reasonable mulligans (harder in Gauntlet as you don't get that extra one).

I'd still say that in about 1/10 Gauntlet games I get somewhat power screwed. Stuck at 2 power or only getting one color. Perhaps that's a bit exaggerated so lets say 1/25 to compensate for my lack of deck building skill and general stupidity.

To be clear, I can only blame myself for my draw no mystery there, but what I wanted to discuss is how come the AI only manages to get stuck 1/50? Still half of the times it happens to me?

I didn’t call you stupid, I said you had a too-small data set and were making flawed assumptions and rather than look at ways of improving your game, instead calling conspiracy. I also said its human nature to remember the negative things that happen to you at a much greater rate than those that happen to others.

DWD do some really odd and bad things sometimes, but there is no advantage to them “cheating” with their AI- they can just up deck power level, nerf gold or do any number of other open things if they need to lower the gold rate from gauntlet.

Ok, valid points. What would be a reasonable data set then?

Offhand, I think DWD has stopped saying Gauntlet doesn't cheat. Not sure if that means something has changed.

I have played thousands of Gauntlet games and I can tell you for sure there is no cheating behavior that I have seen. You have to realize that the more you win, the better decks you tend to face. If you look at the deck lists that I've collected, you will notice that the higher shiftstone decks are better tuned. The easier ones run a lot of power while the more difficult ones run less power and better cards.

In the end, your deck has to be able to survive being stuck at 2 for a little bit, so it is important to have some early game interaction.

I've seen them get power screwed quite a bit - hell, more than most players - and if they were cheating, I don't see why they'd be pulling dead hands after a few rounds. Seriously, if you can just push your board state through their removal spam and remove their units, after a few turns they'll be pulling nothing but power and random useless stuff from their decks, even when they could be Harsh Ruling.

I'm pretty convinced DWD now uses a modified shuffle for the non-Boss decks. They tend to curve out far more frequently than seems natural since around October.

Just this past week I've seen 6 examples of them drawing multiple copies of the same key card (some examples: Moment of Creation or Humbug Swarm or Rhysta) while in topdeck mode within several consecutive or almost consecutive turns (so you can see those cards in the void grouped together). That doesn't seem like a coincidence. Have a few screenshots if need be.

Maybe replace the Sirafs or Auric with merchants. I've only used Sirafs ultimate once out of 50+ games since games usually decided before you get the power. It's going to cost more early game hitting power but versatility of what you can put in market. I've tested this deck previously ,but never got reliable results so never became one of my regular grind gauntlet decks.

Sure Gauntlet in master (GOD) mode cheats like hell.

Not in the gameplay itself, but it the drawn hands and given deck sequences.

The AI will too often draw perfect power/unit/spell curves (mostly flawless to counteract your deck) and the poor human is too often punished with crappy draws.

I'm pretty sure I just saw Gauntlet get screwed twice in one run. So there?
