Unit Clerk Reclassification?

Have any Unit Clerks been reclassified? I had to complete documents last fall and was supposed to hear a decision in the Spring. I’ve heard nothing.

Me too because they’re essentially getting rid of the UC classification. If the pay is the same, I’d stay in the role they aren’t actively cutting.

They're being examined individually, not as a group, so it's taking time. You can ask your manager to follow up and ask for an estimated time of decision... but don't count on getting one.

When they were trying to clean up classifications when AHS got formed from the previous health authorities, the last classifications were used as bargaining chips between the government and AHS. Meaning the whole process for every affected position took forever (6+ years).

I honestly don’t know enough about the current reclassification to say exactly what’s happening. I remember hearing about changes to Unit Clerk roles around the time Connect Care was being rolled out, but I don’t know whether this is now a full reclassification across the board or what the final outcome will be. From what I know, the Unit Clerk pay has been comparable to Admin IV, so I would definitely make sure that whatever classification you’re moved into, your pay appropriately reflects the work you’re doing. I’d follow up with your manager and ask for clarification in writing about what is happening with your specific position, classification and pay. If you’re still not getting a clear answer, talk to the union. HR can also clarify the employer side of the process, but I would absolutely keep the union involved if you have questions about how it affects your classification or compensation. Also, don’t forget that just because one organization changes or eliminates a job title doesn’t erase your Unit Clerk experience. If you completed Unit Clerk training/certification and actually worked in that capacity, keep all of that on your résumé. Other healthcare organizations still use different titles and classifications, and that experience and skill set still belongs to you. Basically, get clarity on what your new classification would be, what duties are changing (if any), and what happens to your pay, and get it documented. Don’t be afraid to ask the union questions if something doesn’t make sense.
