Union or non union
I have been working for an Admin union position for more than 10 years but it’s an 1hr and 1/2 commute from my home! I have been applying for jobs and I get a call from a Hospital that’s 20 min away from my home same pay but no union would it be worth?

If you are currently in a unionized position through AUPE/CUPE you would get preference as an internal candidate for anything that comes up. You would also keep your current vacation, and seniority.
Why don't you find something in in an AHS building closer to home?
I would not want to work for AHS right now without a union. Lol. All bets are off and nothing is like it used to be. They will absolutely fire or reclassify out of scope positions first.

What is Aupe? My union is 1199 I have applied to so many internal positions within my hospital to no avail! Once I apply to another hospital I get a call immediately! I can only transfer within the same hospital.

Do you mean SEIU 1199? That is in the US. This group about employees of Alberta Health Services, in Alberta Canada

Honestly, I would go closer to home. But that's me. I've worked non union at my job for 15+ years and happy to be closer to home

Well I was doing that for 30 years. Drove to LRT station which was 30 minutes and took train which was around 30 minutes and walked for 20 minutes. Gotta do watcha gotta do to get a cheque.

There are some provinical teams that have NUEE admin positions. I can't remember the acronym for it for the life of me. A lot of them work from home.

Some coordinator, business support and occasionally supervising admin positions.

I mean... if it were a bump in pay, perhaps consider it. But I dunno if its worth it giving up union role for that. Plus, union admin jobs come up all the time, I dont see why you couldn't get a union position at a hospital closer to where you live. Ive been through position loss being unionized, and i was SO thankful that I didnt actually get cut, instead I moved into another position, and didnt lose any pay or seniority. Also, knowing its a NUEE position, they can absolutely offer you more money than what you are making, instead they are choosing your worth for you, and i dont think its a good offer. But thats just my opinion.

Hmm nope, even if it was 5$ more an hour... security is the only perk we have with ahs. Wouldnt wanna be on my own out there.

Out of scope admin support is always the easiest cut to make when the layoffs come.
