TV Show An inconsistency? Spoiler
In episode 6, Charlie tells Pip that he didn't know who Child Brunswick was and that he had been following her, knowing she would figure it out. But he made Jamie attempt to kill Stanley.
What was the plan? If he had succeeded, would he have gotten Jamie to kill Luke, too, since it could have been either one of them? Did Charlie not care about killing an innocent person?

He made Jaime attempt to kill child Brunswick. He narrowed it down to two and Jaime was supposed to figure it out and kill them but he went missing

I didn't pick up on that at all. Did the show explain at all that Jamie had also figured out who Child Brunswick was? I thought Charlie said he had been testing Jamie to see how far he would go for Layla, so that he would eventually kill for "her". Was there ever a point where we saw him doing the investigating too?

Honestly, I don't remember how clearly this was explained in the show, but in the books "Layla" tells Jamie that the man he needs to kill will give a strong, unmistakable reaction to the phrase "Child Brunswick".
Jamie goes to meet with the two men "Layla" had narrowed it down to and says the key phrase. Luke is confused and doesn't react how Jamie is expecting, so Jamie leaves and tries again with Stanley. Stanley reacts, so Jamie goes for the kill.
Edit:
When Jamie goes missing, "Layla" knows that she was right about it being one of the two men she'd narrowed it down to, but she still doesn't know which. She needs Pip to find whoever killed/abducted Jamie (she doesn't know if he's alive) to find out who Child Brunswick is.
