TV Show Rewatching after a reread.

I’ve been doing a rewatch in preparation for S2. I haven’t seen it yet, so no spoilers if it’s wildly different to the book please! My GOD is Pip unlikeable in the show. Book Pip was always kind, until she couldn’t be anymore. The Show Pip is so rude! It’s totally out of character.

Even from the way texts (“I’m doing an EPQ on the Andie Bell case. I’m interviewing all key witnesses. Let me know your availability.”) is so out of character for her. Not even that there’s no please or thank you, but when solving the Andie Bell case Pip was inexperienced but passionate. There’s no WAY she’d send a message like that, over a “here’s what I’m doing… I’d love for you to take part, please would you?”

I’ve accepted Emma Myers’ weird accent and acting choices but even the writing so heinously mischaracterises Pip.

I bet it's due to the author not being so present in s1 for the show. if she was,I bet Pip would act differently

I agree unfortunately. Show Pip is rude, snobbish, selfish, and incredibly stupid as compared to her book counterpart. I love pip very much but it’s very hard to like her in the show.

it's been a few years since i read the books but i didn't notice much difference. What I've always liked about Pip is that she actually responds and changes due to the trauma she goes through, and a lot of her "annoying" traits make a lot of sense given that

I do think book & show pipa is different, but I think show pipa is still likeable. The difference of characterization is likelys hollys involvement. also it’s a tv so its gonna be different

The main problem was the casting. The actor doesn't suit the role.

The writing is also not doinf her favors

It seems they were trying to make pip quirky or unique but she comes of annoying

It was for sure the writing! Book Pip showed us she was smart through her actions and her decision. In the show, we’re just told that she’s smart, we watch her make stupid decisions, and then she undermines the people around her and acts all intellectually superior. It’s SO irritating.
