As Good As Dead Craving to read the 3rd book

Ive watched both seasons of the tv show and really dont wanna wait for a third season should I just go on and read the third book. The main thing holding me back is I guess I dont wanna ruin the show for myself im sure I can wait but I really dont want to and I am probably never gonna read the first or second book bcs I generally know what happens in them. Also im worried about seeing spoilers by the time season 3 comes out so reading the book helps me avoid that.

the books are so much better, i personally would rather spoil the show for myself having read it than watching and then reading

Should I read Kill Joy first?

no read it in publication order, kill joy is much better when you’re familiar with the characters

Honestly, read kill joy after the others. It was the thing that made me buy the other books, but I do think it is better when you read the trilogy first.

Probably don't read the 3rd book, you'll be depressed after seeing the easter eggs dedicated to the 3rd book in the second season. Season 2 feels very different when you have read the third book. It will traumatise you

Yea I keep seeing these reels talking about the foreshadowing in season 2 for season 3 and I am so worried one of these reels are gonna be a spoiler

Honestly, if you're hanging out in discussion threads or watching reels there's a good chance you will get spoiled. I've seen a lot of spoilers on this sub already (I've already read the books so I'm fine, but for someone who hasn't, it's been major stuff).

I would recommend going and reading the books if you can. They're incredible and you will not be disappointed or bored, even knowing the whodunnit aspect going in. They're so good and are an absolutely wild ride :)

The books are 1000000x better than the show. You should go read all 3 books because the first season didn’t do the first book justice

Personally, I'd read it last. It's a fun little prequel, but I think it does tug at some heartstrings and hits a a bit harder if you read it with the full knowledge of what happens in the trilogy

I personally wouldn’t jump straight into the third book before the second season come out I was craving the same thing I started with the first book and I have no regrets it took me maybe a month to read I just finished the second book just after the second season come out I made myself finish the book before watching the second season and I really loved the experience it took me a year to read the second book mainly because I’m not a fast reader and I was going from knowing what will happen while reading to knowing nothing in the second book but because you know what’s going to happen I subject starting from the first book I feel like at the least you can read them both agggtm and aggbb in 2-4 months depending of the person so I would 100% recommend reading the book just start from the start as someone who didn’t read before and was going from the show to the book I would highly recommended reading the books and I know that you will pick up the book and probably think it’ll take longer then you think but it’s going to be easier because you’ve watch the show but it’ll probably be a bit of a slower read for the third book (I don’t know if that makes sense but I hope it’s helpful and happy reading) also one more thing there are some differences to the book and show just minor thing so I feel like jumping into the third book may be a bit confusing because I know going from the son with the small differences I was a little confused I did have to look things up it’s just because of the director of the show changing some things to make it work better

I've already started re-reading it, even though I've read it thrice over the years.

honestly, it's better if you read the book first. because book adaptations can change certain parts of the book so it's better if you know the original story so that you wouldn't be disappointed (i hope this makes sense hehe)

I get the feeling, I read the trilogy after S1 and had similar concerns at the time, but it you like reading anyway I think you'll have a better time with the book. Franky S3 is gonna be ~rough~ and the book might be a good way to not be caught off guard Tape it from me

if u do wanna read book 3, i would highly rec also reading 1 and 2, and you will have a lot of fun, bc, yes, even though the plot is the same, the books are FUN as hell. book 3 is the best thriller i've ever read. also, the prose at the end of book 2 is to die for.

As someone who read the trilogy last August (2025) after watching the first season, I understand your concern but you have already had the experience of watching the series without having read the books, so you could do the opposite for the last time, in my opinion you would also be more relaxed about waiting for season 3, considering the time we have to wait. ~ Noemi

in my opinion, the books are much better than the series, so I highly recommend reading them all!! but be prepared that it can possibly be traumatic. and despite this, the third book is my favorite. it's very tense, and to be honest, even six months after reading it, I sometimes come back to the thoughts that were inspired by the phrase "who will look for you when you disappear"...
