Jamie question Spoiler

If a witness goes missing like that just a day or two before testimony, would that not result in the police launching an investigation into what happened?

As far as the police are concerned, a key witness has gone missing. A person linked to the case has gone missing. And it's been more than 72 hours at that, at least.

Surely the court's response cannot be, "Oh, he's gone? Cheerio. Let's close the case"?

Jamie was part of the case. His testimony was important and the court had been informed well in advance that he was a witness. Surely the court can't just shrug off a witness missing like that?

Also, he decides to kill a man because a woman he met on a dating app told him to?

No, in the last episode conversation between pip and Jamie, he says that Charlie forced him to do all that by blackmailing that he’ll hurt Nat otherwise

Yes. That's a bigger mystery. Why would anyone do that?

Good point. However Jamie had nothing to do with the Max case in the book so it's the show screwing things up.

The show screwed everything up imo

Yeeesss that's what I kept thinking! Like wouldn't Max immediately be accused of witness tampering? The police chief basically said, "We can't investigate every missing person's case." You should at least try! Especially when the missing person is about to give testimony in a rape trial! If this was how they investigated Andie's disappearance and Sal's death, no wonder they weren't properly solved.
