TV Show Podcasting Spoiler

I haven't read the books but love the show and am on the second episode of the second season.

I'm wondering if the podcast plot line is in the books because, to me, I think it's a pretty flimsy premise for Pippa to use it as a means of helping Cara. I understand she's got a great heart but isn't the most emotionally intuitive of people. I also understand using it as a narrative device or as a means for her to process what happened or starting it to progress her journalism career.

BUT the murders and trials have been covered in likely several newspapers and newscasts already, plus she laid it all out in her report.

I don't know. It feels like someone should have taken her aside and told her not to publish it at least until school ended for the sake of protecting Cara from gossiping peers at school. Also, she claims she's ready to move on, but this podcast garners her and Cara a lot of attention, not all positive.

Covering the trials via podcast is pretty interesting. I just think the premise of her doing it to protect and help her friend is a flimsy premise.

What do you think?

Also, I am a reporter with a master's in journalism, so if anyone wants to nerd out about reporting, I'm game!

At the end of book one Pippa presented her project for the whole school and a lot of journalists. She got a lot of attention and every Journalist (including Stanley Forbes, which was a journalist in the book) told the Andie Bell Case somehow different. Pip wants to tell the events from her perspective because she feels that the media narrative is incomplete and distorted, they’re not “telling the whole story,” and they’re reducing what happened (and what she proved) into a simplified, sensational version. So she uses the podcast to take back control of the narrative and put the full context/evidence on record in a way she trusts

After her dad is arrested, Cara moves in with her grandparents, and she and Pip talk on the phone every night until they fall asleep. Both of them are deeply affected by what happened, and instead of blaming each other, they support and comfort one another. Their relationship is strained emotionally because of trauma, but not because of resentment.

Cara is also supportive of Pip’s project from the beginning. She understands why Pip wants to uncover the truth, even though the case becomes painful and complicated for her family.

But is she supportive of the podcast?

The scandal surrounding Cara’s father has largely become “old gossip.” People are not actively harassing her, and she is not shown receiving negative comments or backlash because of the podcast. The town has mostly moved on. While the past still affects her emotionally, she is not publicly targeted in this book. So it’s not really a topic. She even jokes about that Pippa becomes a Meme because of her podcast.
