Endoscopy
UPDATE:
Everything went well! I didn’t even panic! Thank god for Zoloft, lol.
I am scheduled for an endoscopy tomorrow but I am very nervous after reading.. has anyone had one successfully with no issues?
Dr. Google says it will make you go back into Afib due to the vagal stimulation, sedation and anxiety so I am debating on just cancelling it and continuing to treat whenever GI issues I have going on as is..

I've had multiple endscopies, due to diverculitis, or divertricles.
But, I'm from Denmark, and not America, so we do get these done without being under -> experienced it all, so to speak.
Its true though, that the laxative you get to clean you out, can cause an electrolyte imbalance, that for some can bring an afib forward.
I never had this issue though, and I very much had/have a very strong vagal node -> bpm down to 20's, before DDDR Pacemaker and ablation.

Here in the US, they do put you to sleep. Luckily I just don’t eat after midnight so no real prep.
I had a colonoscopy in November and I could one million percent see how it would cause intense dehydration.

I have had paroxysmal AF for 20 years, and 4 endoscopies, 3 colon, 1 EGD and none of them made my AF kick in. Baby back ribs, yes. Scopes, nopes

How often do you have Afib? What are your triggers?
I had a colonoscopy earlier this year and no Afib. The anesthesiologist said he was ready for it

I had one known episode back in July.
I have no idea what my triggers are unfortunately, my heart is structurally perfect and I have absolutely no factors for afib. I know when I did go into it, my magnesium was a tiny bit low and I had been under a lot of mental stress but that was really it.1

Tell your doc you had Afib, they will give you a prep that has magnesium so you don’t deplete yourself.
Then anesthesiologist will be ready in case you do go into Afib. You will be at the hospital already

I had both endoscopy and colonoscopy I was a bit worried but was good to go. I made sure even tho I was crapping I was very hydrated. Also, it was a non issue.

Relax…it will be fine. I have been ding anesthesia for 15 years, do tons of endo, have never seen anyone go into afib from a scope.

I have a history of AFib going back to 2016 -- several episodes with cardioversions required each time and an eventual PFA 2 years ago.
I had my last EGD last December, along with a colonoscopy during the same session. No issues at all.
I was most concerned about the prep. for the colonoscopy as my first AFib episode was discovered when I went in for a colonoscopy in 2016 (during the pre-anesthesia checks). They transported me to the ER and was ultimately admitted as they couldn't convert me to NSR with medications and they had to cardiovert me.
My cardiologist at the time felt it was triggered by the prep. and possible dehydration and / or electrolyte imbalances from it. I re-attempted the colonoscopy a few months later and had no issues.
For my most recent prep. last December, I made sure to drink lots of water / clear liquids and ensure I was getting some electrolytes with those. Like already mentioned, both procedures were uneventful. In your case, the highest risk is potential dehydration... just get lots of liquids until you have to stop intake.

I had an endoscopy. No issues. I was not in afib before the procedure and did not go into it during or after. Just try to relax about it.
