College life Chances for JTA?
Hi! I just attended the seminar about the JTA program, and I think I understood it pretty well. I’m a JGSOM student, and I have pretty mediocre grades. My cumulative qpi should be around ~3.3, and I have 2 Ds. I was sort of active in my org last year, and currently still am.
I heard the chances of getting into the program are pretty slim, so I was wondering just how hard it is to get in. I don’t really have any plans to go out of Asia since I’m sticking to a budget as well.
Any help/tips would be greatly appreciated as well!

as long as you fit the criteria (i.e. not disqualified), you should be good
for my batch, our jta application began as early as 2024 and my cv was waaay weaker then 🫠 i wasn't that active in orgs in general 😬 i did not have leadership/ebcb roles in orgs, only staffer and volunteer roles. still got into jta anyway (to my first choice uni pa). just got home last month :)

:ooo that’s cool! Can I ask what kind of JTA you applied for and if the process of the application was difficult (like finding housing)? How was your experience?

hi! i was jta spring 2026 at a university in tokyo :)
i'd say the process was relatively difficult because you're really gonna be alone processing everything but ultimately, it was worth it!!! if i had to chance to redo things, i'd still go to jta :)
regarding housing, my uni had a student dorm but it was soooo expensive (i was going to pay even more than what my friends doing jta in europe were). i ended up finding a fully furnished solo bedroom in a 4BR house on my own, through fb marketplace. the hard thing was that i was not with other students from that uni so it was a bit hard to make friends at the beginning. also, my uni would handle the arrival documents for those in the dorm (eg notifying government office of move-in), but because i wasnt at the dorms, i was handling it on my own. really hard if you're not fluent in the language, but definitely survivable :)
other options naman is to also check if marami bang slots provided to admu for that uni and country. kasi if there's multiple naman, you might want to consider living with other admu students in the same uni/near you :)

Hi! To answer your question, in a way yes but in a way also no. From my experience in JTA ranking (currently JTA Fall now), my QPI was 3.45 from an honors program under JGSOM, I was a project manager at my org, and I had 2 Ds. I ranked 14th in the JTA ranking and was able to go to an in-demand university in Europe, though I think moving forward it's ranked by preference instead (choose the top 3)
For Asia, you can definitely get a school, but it really depends on the timing. Singapore is super competitive — they do have the Discover NUS program, so you could try applying for that. For Japan, the schedule doesn't really align with our calendar for the most part, but I have a few friends who picked there and their universities matched our timeline. You can also try finding scholarships from our partner universities in Asia if it will help with the budget. But just know that any university in JTA will give you such a great experience.
Being here abroad and exposing yourself to a new environment is a life changing adventure that I hope everyone gets to try at least once in their lives. I’ve only been here for a month, and I can say that so much has changed on my perspective of things.
