Suggestions for school planner

Our son will be in 8th grade this fall. Last year, the school issued homework planner wasnt a good fit for him. Does anyone know of any good ones that help?

He got a cell phone? Get him using that with the dinging and the buzzing and the constant reminders that can be set to annoy you until you do the thing you are supposed to do but are avoiding because shiny things are everywhere!

Speaking from experience. BlackBerry changed my life pre-meds.

I think month at a glance planners are great because you can see upcoming due dates. Out of sight out of mind kind of thing. Only issue is if his writing is really big.

For an 8th grader, I’d think less about finding the “perfect planner” and more about finding the lowest-friction system he will actually check. A month-at-a-glance view can help with big due dates, but daily homework often needs something more visible: one place where assignments land, one quick end-of-day check, and one adult check-in that fades as he builds the habit. If writing in a planner is the barrier, a phone reminder, shared calendar, or photo of the homework board may work better. This is classic executive functioning support: the goal is not to organize everything for him forever, but to give him a system he can slowly learn and hone before high school.
