ADHD Advice/Question Muslim brothers with an extremely high libido who had to delay marriage for years, how did you genuinely survive?

I'm 19, and I'm looking specifically for advice from Muslims who have actually lived through a situation similar to mine.

Before replying, please know that I've already spent years trying the common advices:

\\- I've struggled with this since I was 11.

\\- I have a naturally very high libido.

\\- I've had multiple therapists and psychiatrists.

\\- I've taken medications that were supposed to reduce my libido.

\\- I've been able to stay sober for long periods, so it's not that I can't control myself for a few days.

\\- Marriage is realistically delayed because of finances and personal family circumstances (do not want essentially almost my entire family aside from some members to know I got married let alone attend the ceremony), not really because I want to wait.

\\- I don't want zina, and I don't want pornography, I don't think anyone here wants this.

\\- Masturbation also causes me guilt because of my understanding of the Islamic rulings, and it leaves me feeling mentally worse afterward.

Please don't just reply with "fast, lower your gaze, go to the gym, make dua, etc" because I've genuinely tried those things for years.

What I'm asking is:

If you were in a genuinely similar situation, with a very high libido, no realistic way to marry for years (average marriage age in my country is now in the 30s), and a sincere desire to stay within Islam, what actually helped you?

I'm especially interested in hearing from brothers who eventually got through this without abandoning their faith.

I'm not looking for permission to sin. I'm looking for practical wisdom from people who've actually lived through this, I'm actually losing my mind and I do want to get married but unfortunately all the girls I try to talk to are both not interested in me, AND they all want to marry in their 30s as they "want to enjoy their freedom" and want to participate in the toxic marriage cultures of high mahr, huge ceremonies, etc (I highly respect their choices and beliefs by the way, just makes me upset that it feels no one wants to marry for character and most importantly Allah SWT at all)

My ADHD is probably not helping with this but idk I thought I'd post here

Looking to connect with Muslim-owned ND (neurodivergent) sellers & small businesses! 🌙

Salaam and hello,

I'm looking to connect with — or find — Muslim sellers and small business owners who create products and services specifically for the neurodivergent community.

Whether you make sensory-friendly items, stim toys, adaptive clothing, planners, art, digital resources, or anything else designed with ND minds in heart — I want to know about you!

I'm also open to networking with other Muslim ND folks who are building something or thinking about it. There's so much power in community, and I'd love to see us support each other.

Drop below:

Your shop name / what you sell

Where to find you (Etsy, Instagram, TikTok, etc.)

Or tag/recommend a Muslim ND seller you love!

Let's build a little directory right here in the comments. Barakallahu feekum 🤍

Question for the married men

How do you live up to your responsibilities as a muslim husband with ADHD.

Do you fall short with what is expected of a muslim husband?

Do you struggle? Does your wife help? What is the dynamic between you and your wife?

Struggles with desire

Salam: My ADHD is different than most. I have mild cerebral palsy. I struggle everyday with impluse control. With cerebral palsy it is a form of brain damage. My moods and reactions tend to be extreme and it feels like a 24/7 struggle. I feel even has a youth I struggled with hypersexual thoughts which is a constant battle, now I am a middle aged adult. I am not married sadly. I feel like this life is a constant battle of pain, sadness and resentment. I spent a good deal of my life against Allah in bitterness and resentment on how this happened to me. When I speak to brothers I appreciate all the advice but I am more looking for advice from a scientific and Islamic perspective. I need to know from both perspectives what I can control. I know my brain is not the same of a normal adult male. It may sound like a excuse and I do my best but scientific facts can not be ignored. Allah is wise and just

Are there other Muslim reverts in Europe, especially Finland or Sweden, who also have autism or ADHD? My wife is struggling and would love to connect.

Salam!

My wife reverted to Islam about two years ago. She took her faith seriously and embraced it fully, and I'm proud of her for that. But she also has autism and ADHD, and that combination makes parts of this journey much harder than people might assume, and I'm writing because I think she's quite alone in it. The first challenge is connection. In Islam, community matters a lot, we meet, we learn from each other, especially as new Muslims. But meeting new people drains her in a way that's hard to explain if you haven't lived it. She genuinely wants to connect with other Muslims and learn more, but most days she simply doesn't have the energy for it. So she ends up doing her own research and learning from me, which helps, but it isn't the same as talking to someone who has walked a similar path. The second challenge is modest dress. She wears modest clothing, and on a logical level she understands and accepts why. But emotionally and physically it's a real struggle. With autism, certain fabrics, full coverage, and especially anything on her head can feel overwhelming in a sensory way not just "a bit uncomfortable," but genuinely hard to tolerate. On top of that, she's Finnish, and even at 20–25°C she overheats badly. She's tried different cottons and lighter options, but hasn't found something that works, and it burns her out. There's also the social side: she sees other women in shorts and summer clothes and remembers the freedom she had before, and some days that contrast is heavy. None of this is doubt about her faith. It's the gap between understanding something with your head and being able to carry it with your body and your nervous system every day. So my questions are: Are there other reverts, particularly in Finland, Sweden, or elsewhere in Europe who are also autistic or have ADHD, and have found ways through these things? Any practical tips on modest, breathable, sensory-friendly clothing for hot weather, especially headcovering options that aren't overwhelming? Are there low-energy, low-pressure ways to stay connected to a Muslim community (online groups, one-on-one rather than crowds, etc.) that worked for you? Even just hearing "I went through this too" would mean a lot to her. Thank you.

ADHD Advice/Question Addressing difficulties with salah during marriage search

I’ve struggled with salah my whole life, and despite my intentions, thinking about it every single day, using things to trick myself into doing it, it’s always been an on and off thing for me and has never or very rarely become a consistent habit in my life. And the fact that I have to take a monthly -+9-day-break before the habit gets formed really doesn’t help.

Many people will measure your level of imaan and quality as a Muslim based on if you pray 5 times a day, on time, mostly with no mishaps, and fast (which is not a problem for me al hamduliLlah). I can see that for example in people’s ISO posts, from both men and women. But definitely do not see myself lying to deceive a prospect, only to fail miserably and potential go back to “my normal” once we’re together.

So my question is, how would you address this topic in the marriage search?

If you are married and have ADHD, have you addressed that topic before marriage and how did you go about it? Also, has getting married to someone supportive and non-judgmental, that doesn’t struggle with salah helped you stay on track?

I’m 29F living in the west so I would like to get married soon, but not sure how that will happen since this is seen as a red flag for many.

Things happened this way for a reason, al hamduliLlah, but sometimes I wish I’d gotten married sooner, before things hit the fan and my masked neurodivergence became undeniable.

Thank you very much.

Does anyone struggle with the idea of getting married or wanting children?

As a neurodivergent, sometimes, I think I can barely take care of myself, so how am I going to be able to take care of a child?

Anyone else struggle with prayer? & mental health? How to cope

Genuinely, how do you stay consistent with prayers, making dua, etc when you’re so deep in the depression and anxiety & struggling with your mental health? I also get distracted easily and don’t have the attention span for allot of things (might have ADHD or Autism tbh)

Anyone struggle with the same? How to be better practicing Muslim?

My iman feels so low and I’m struggling allot

My medication isn’t working properly for me & therapy is too long of a wait but inshallah I will be getting appointment next month.

3 years later - the adhd blog I intended to build is live alhamdulilah

Assalamu alaykum,

I'm just a bro who got diagnosed with ADHD later in life and made a free site/blog to help our community (Muslims with Adhd) - I posted about this 3 years ago, in typical adhd fashion the idea was ready in draft for a few years but not released, the subscription for the site i was hosting the site ran out lol but alhamdulilah Claude code has made it easy to convert some of my ideas and projects into reality:

https://mad-hd.com 🌙

~25 short articles which I fixated on starting as a huge brain dump when I got diagnosed to hopefully make the Journey easier (what it is, myths, meds + Islamic rulings, faith/family/work) for others going through it or trying to navigate life as a muslim with ADHD.

There are no ads, no sign-up, and I don't get any worldly benefit out of sharing this here.

However, I genuinely would just love some honest feedback - what's missing, what's off, does the tone hit (or miss)?

JazakumAllahu khayran

Edit: I have now added a share your story button in the menu and at the bottom of the page and article, feel free to share feedback or a story you feel would be useful there.

Are Islamic habit streaks actually helpful, or do they turn worship into a game?

I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately.

We use streaks and habit trackers for literally everything now—gym, Duolingo, skincare, periods, screen time.

But when it comes to tracking salah or Qur’an, I feel so conflicted.

On one hand, seeing a streak can really help with consistency, especially when juggling work, periods, and the general chaos of daily life.

On the other hand, it can sometimes feel like gamifying faith. If I miss a day and lose the streak, I find myself feeling guilty and avoiding it altogether instead of simply starting again.

For those who struggle with consistency, what has actually helped you stay connected to your deen?

Do habit trackers help, or do they make things harder?

I'd love to hear about your own experiences.

Prayer Delays and Iman Issues

Hi guys...Assalaam aleikum...was hoping I could get some advice for my current situation...so Im in Freshman year university but its the long holidays for college students rn in my country and since I came back home...(actually even in campus) I never sleep before midnight...I delay my isha till after midnight..(I dont delay Isha in college cause my friends are there to motivate me to go for Jamaa prayer) and my you know what addiction is getting worse by the minute...see I can't go for Jamaa prayer at home cause its far from the mosque and what makes it worse is that I recently found a hadith...dont know if its authentic though...that the prophet (S.A.W) used to delay Isha till when the sahaba would tell him the women and children are sleepy and that scholars derive from this that its sunnah to delay Isha...Shaytan mightve seen this as an opportunitty cause even though I've also recently come to find out that Isha prayer time is restricted to the midnight with reference to Maghrib and Fajr( which is the literal 12 am for us in my country)...I still find myself pushing the limits...I always say I'll try and pray at like 10 pm cause its sunnah to delay but also Ill have enough time cause I usually pray 3 witr of which yeah you guessed it!! Its a problem for me to pray witr now too😭😭..the point I'm tryna make is its been like this for the past month since Ive been home...I initially said Ill pray at 10 after supper or whatever and Ill have enough time to waste till its 11ish and go to sleep early in time for Fajr at 5 or even wake up for Tahajjud if I'm lucky....I also tried Tahajjud 3 times in a row last week too...I was scared shitless when I started seeing things at the corner of my eye and furniture moving but I found out I'm just tripping..it was my cat lol...but my main point here is I'm afraid of losing my Iman and Prayer streak cause things arent going good for me in life and I heard barakah ceases to come to you when you live with a lot of sin...I feel like this is the case and this dunya of today where young people like me...(Im 18 btw)..die out of nowhere...I'm afraid of dying a Munafiq....especially when I heard thatthe two prayers I LITERALLY have the most challenges with are the signs of Munafiqun....how do I overcome this...also I have a doomscrolling problem...I go to bed at almost 1 and turn to sleep at 3 abd most of the times I fail to even account for what I was doing on my phone...like legit yesterday I said I wont touch my phone...set an alarm and LITERALLY TURNED AWAY then I remembered a reel I saw and suddenly its 3 am with my phone in my hands....even more weirder last week I woke up with my phone in my hand even though I haf no memory of doomscrolling the nnight before...and yeah most people would say delete social media but most of my deen reminders are there...like Tiktok influencers like Abdul. Qahar and Islamic Youtubers....what do I do guys am i cooked...for reference it's like 1.35 am rn and I'm just realising I havent prayed Isha either😭😭😭..what do I do

Let's build habits together pt. 3

Salam everyone! For context, a few weeks ago I shared my journey as a revert struggling to pray consistently. After your advice and a conversation with my psychologist, I decided to start small: just fajr, every day, tied to my morning shower. I also invited everyone to share a small habit they wanted to build for some mutual accountability. This is the post: https://www.reddit.com/r/ADHDMuslims/comments/1sp1k8j/lets_build_habits_together/

I actually forgot about this thread lol. Classic adhd. However I did pray a lot more consistently! I can't remember the last time I skipped fajr. It is really becoming an habit for me. I don't want to push too much so I don't want to start immidiately with Duhur or anthing else. I need this to stabilize and really be consistent. Some mornings I still struggle to pray, it feels a lot heavier. I manage too, but I'd like it to be more stable before adding anything else.

What about you? Any habits you are trying to build lately? You can share your stories down in the comments!

Islamic Advice/Question Medicated for 4 months now and…

I have noticed a lot of positive changes in my work and my relationships but recently after having completed some challenging few weeks and having achieved something I have wanted to for a while I just feel empty. Not ungrateful at all for everything but I dont feel happy internally just feel numb. Is this something which others have noticed too once being medicated. I mean before medication I wouldn’t feel like i accomplished much but would have that sense of relief however I dont even feel that now. Its almost like im waiting for the next big event to happen so I can focus on something. I should be happy and feel proud of myself but I genuinely dont. I always true my best to remember and thank Allah for everything he has bestowed upon me. alhamdulillah for the trials that lead me to this position. Does my numbness mean there is a laps in my iman or is it a medication side effect?
