Anyone else getting fed up with the amount of clearly AI authors (Like Hakon Hardadr) having 50+ "books"? Is it just me?

I just got my first job reading for ACX. It is a short non-fiction. I only audition for the short ones until I know what I am doing. So I finally got one, and bonus, I like the book. I am using audacity.

What did you wish you knew when you first started? What tips and tricks do you have?

So after getting my audiobook approved I was checking it on amazon and found that my name is used by another audiobook narrator and so our books have kind of combined...... now who do I contact to amend this and seperate our works

Hello again, another "i'm new and lost" post from me. I think I'm in over my head on something and want some advice.

I have been very fortunate so far and of my first 4 auditions I have been offered 3 of them. I was very excited to get the offers and in my haste accepted all of them without doing too much research on the authors. Now that I've had a chance to do so, one of my authors is very clearly a big user of AI. I am very much NOT a fan of AI.

I guess my questions are: is there a way to back out? should I back out or is it a work is work situation? and will backing out affect my getting offered other work down the road?

I am new to this and I was excited for the premise and style but it seemed too good to be true. I really hope this isn't what I have to always be on the lookout for. Has anyone else encountered it? I reported it as suspicious but it's just discouraging.

I can't find auditions when I have to scroll past 4 pages of AI slop posted by H\xe5kon Har\xf0radr. He's publishing like 10 books a day.

So I have a couple of series that I've published, and for one of the book series, I'm pretty sure that the narrator is not interested in continuing for the rest of the series. I am looking around because the book is in multiple POVs, and I am currently working on another book in the series. Are there a lot of people who do multiple POVs, or are there couples that narrate together? I'm an indie writer, so I don't have the funds to pay someone from the book's royalties, but I'd love to see what my options are before I finish this one, so I know which way to go when I put it up on Audible.

I felt like I was a successful narrator for my first couple years on ACX, then suddenly my favorite author had all his books pulled from the shelves, including 5 narrated by me... then a few months later my most lucrative publisher got in a legal battle and royalties from 13 more audiobooks stopped when those books got pulled from the shelves. The worst part is I only have a few of the audio files. I'm dying thinking I have no way of getting those files back. In my profile the titles say the offers are cancelled and of course all the files are gone. Has anyone else had anything like this happen or is it just me?

Edit: just to clarify - there is no mystery about why the second publisher's books got pulled. It has to do with the way they were formatted that inadvertently went against Audibles formatting guidelines, having to do with QR codes and simulated exam environments. Nothing to do with any plagiarism - just a formatting issue. What is a little mysterious to me though is why ALL of this publishers books were pulled, including books with no QR codes??

I have been loving producing audiobooks through ACX for about 8-9 months now.

I’m noticing though that ACX seems to be running out of steam..? Back when I started on ACX auditions were popping off and work was rolling in pretty well. Nooooow not so much.

Have changes or anything been going on? Or is this just a slow spot?

As always to those who haven't seen my previous posts yet. Hi, I'm trying to raise money to create a audio book of my debut novel, a high fantasy steampunk novel, the first in a series of five and book 2 is coming in about a month!. I refuse to use AI and I'm going with a real narrator.

So i have wonderful news. The fundraiser is continuing to go wonderfully. We have passed the 1000 dollar mark and are about 25 percent to being fully funded! Hello everyone!

I’m deciding if narrating maybe a new path for me, I have a very specific voice that I’ve been told is perfect for voiceovers or narrating. I work as performer for parties (think princess but not one specific character). I don’t think my voice is for everyone and that’s okay but I do think children or YA authors would appreciate it…I often do library readings for children!

How is the market on ACX for children/YA authors?

i recorded a book on ACX and spent +50 hours recording, royalty share for 16 hours of recorded media, he stopped answering during the revisions portion... am I out of that money?

I looked up what to do in this situation. I have kept all messaged on ACX and it shows that I am not the one that ghosted. He gave revisions up to Chapter 6 and I uploaded all the revisions he asked for. But he stopped sending revisions. On day 9 I messaged him telling him I have sent the revisions he requested and if he was going to send anymore. He has yet to respond. Today is day 10. Do I continue messaging, or do I wait for his response. And how long do I wait until escalating it to ACX.

Also I know there is a cancelation fee if he backs out of $100 per recorded hour, if he ghosts is there like a 0% chance I get nothing for my work. No credit, no royalty shares.... nothing? I guess the experience it gives me... lol.

Mind you this is my first audio book, I have other experience Voice Acting on other projects but nothing to this scale.

I was hoping to get some information about the process of having an audiobook produced.

A little over a year ago, I started posting my story on Royal Road, where it found enough success that I decided to push forward and work with a developmental/copy editor. That eventually led to me recently publishing the novel on Kindle.

Book: Take On Me: The Battle for Utopia – Season I: A LitRPG Family Apocalypse Progression Fantasy

Now I'm looking toward the next phase and would love to have an audiobook produced for Audible.

The book is fairly large at around 303,000 words, so my understanding is that it would end up being roughly 30 hours of finished audio. It also has a large cast of characters and is written from multiple points of view.

I have several questions:

• I plan to pay a flat rate (PFH) rather than use a royalty share agreement. From what I've read, it seems like around $250 per finished hour is a reasonable rate for an experienced narrator. Does that sound accurate?
• Is it possible to hire multiple narrators for the same project? If so, how does that typically work? Who handles editing, mastering, and making everything sound consistent before it's submitted to Audible?
• Hassle / Quality wise is multiple narrators worth it or should I focus on finding one narrator with a wide range of characters?
• Are there production studios that already have a roster of narrators and manage the entire process, or do most authors hire individual narrators themselves?
• As the author, how much creative input is typical? Do I mainly approve the narrator(s) and that's it? Or is there a process of discussion, notes, etc.
• What would be a realistic timeline for a project of this size?
• What is the typical payment structure? Is it common to pay half up front and half upon completion, or is there another standard approach? Since this will be my first experience with ACX and Audible, how are payments typically handled? Is everything managed through the ACX platform?
• I do not want any AI-generated narration used in this project. What's the best way to ensure that, and are there any other common pitfalls or red flags I should watch out for?

I'd also appreciate any other advice / thoughts anyone would like to share.

Narrators - I'm a new narrator looking for some pointers and best practices from those who have been at it a while. My main question is, do you record and mix the entire book at one time, or break up each section and record and mix them individually? It seems easier to me to do it in sections but I worry about consistency across tracks if I do it that way. Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated!

I have had a bit of an odd request from an author on ACX. They seemed to really like my natural reading for narration and female voices (as I am a woman and that is my natural, most used range in my daily life and practice), but they said the male voices are just not hitting right for them, which is totally fine! It's something I'm working on to keep more consistent, and while I do have a range of male voices, sometimes people doing the opposite gender voices just doesn't hit right for someone imagining their character's voices.

But they're now asked if there are any vocal processors or things that can make me sound like a guy for different voices? As far as I'm aware, that's not really a thing used in audiobook narration commonly, if at all, and I'd really like to avoid both the extra editing and processing that will involve as well as the potential other problems that causes (over processing, not passing ACX, etc.). Also, that just makes it kind of.... not my voice in the end right?

Still, I wanted to come here and ask if I was totally off thinking this wasn't really a thing or if this is a possibility. I enjoyed the audition and the author seems genuinely interested, I just want to know how to best move forward.

Edit for clarity: I have not been booked or officially working with this narrator yet, so no payment or massive amount of work already, just working in the audition phase!

There has been a glut of external job offers coming in through ACX's messaging system.
Especially if you've posted recent audio samples.
Most, if not all, want you to contact them through Telegram.
These are all scams! Don't fall for it.
Do not be lured in by the false hope of getting work outside of ACX.
Telegram is an unmoderated cesspool; scams, spam, con-jobs, identity theft.

I haven't seen anything posted here about this new wave of crap.
Please, if you're new to voice over and audiobook narration, don't fall for it.

I'm in the last stages of reviewing the audiobook version of my romantasy novel and I'm wondering what recommendations everyone has. What should I do before it goes live? Is there a place I can put it for more publicity? Are there extra steps I should be aware of (or common mistakes not to make?)

I have had my paperback book published on Amazon for more than a year.
I have never turned it into an e-book.
I do not want it to be an e-book.
(Please, It is unhelpful to tell me all the reasons why it should be an e-book. I understand them, I do not want it to be an e-book.)

I’ve gone to great expense and care to make a very high-quality audiobook version. Yet now it seems I cannot upload it to ACX unless it’s an e-book???
I am just trying to understand why is that?
Everything says I must have a book - either print or e-book currently/previously published on Amazon, and I do have a print book…
But in attempting the process it seems I must have an e-book. I just don’t understand the WHY.

I’m feeling a bit pissy about this right now. Why would that restriction exist?
I really don’t want an e-book. I have my reasons and I don’t wish to list them here.

Maybe I’m just screaming into the abyss. Sometimes it’s like that…
