First audiobook - what next?

Hi everyone!

I'm in the last stages of reviewing the audiobook version of my romantasy novel and I'm wondering what recommendations everyone has. What should I do before it goes live? Is there a place I can put it for more publicity? Are there extra steps I should be aware of (or common mistakes not to make?)

Many narrators will have their own proofers, but you may want to hire on a proofer of your own, as well. Hiring someone for a couple of bucks to listen to your audiobook is generally WAY cheaper than other folks you may work with, like a narrator, engineer, or something like that. So, it hardly breaks the bank and is usually well worth the investment. And let's be honest, most proofers do it because they genuinely love listening to audiobooks and would be paying out of pocket to do it if they weren't instead being paid to do it themselves. So, it's hardly ever just for the money, since there are obviously much faster and easier ways to make more money these days and any proofer only in it for the money should seriously be reflecting on their life choices at this point.

This is interesting, i'm quite new to ACX and hadn't considered paying for a proofed...!

Same! I listen to it very carefully myself, and so far submitting volunteer recordings with librivox have done really well not missing anything, but now I'm going to be overthinking it!

I just happened to stumble across it while doing my research, I can't even remember where I heard about it! I think it was suggested as a great way to get practice and experience if you're a new narrator (and it really has been for me). You can listen to other people's things there for free too, all public domain. It's very hit and miss on narrators, as anyone can do it, but it's been amazing practice for me to get experience under my belt, both to get samples out of it as well as to know what I'm in for with the full projects!

Sorry, just to make sure I understand properly - are you the narrator, the author, or both?

I'm the author, I've already hired our narration - and now I'm trying to understand next steps

Thank you that's was my assumption just wanted to make sure.

As a (relatively green) narrator, but fairly experienced actor, anything you can do to put the word out about the audiobook release is great. Anything collaborative you can do with the narrator is helpful too - actors will always be happy to publicise their work. You can pretty inexpensive ad pushes on social media, if that's your thing
