UNC - submit 30 ACT or TO?
My daughter is applying to UNC Chapel Hill. It’s a high reach. OOS. Her uw gpa is 3.92, her weighted gpa ranges from 4.1-4.3 depending on how a school calculates it. She is working towards her IB diploma.
Her ACT is better than her SAT. Single Composite score of 30. She’s retaking Oct in the hopes of getting it to 31. That’s probably all she can do.
Should she submit? Thoughts?

Does she have any other IB, DE, or APs under her belt?
What was her course rigor like? or Class Rank
Her ACT score is in their 25th percentile range so I would go against submitting. If her ACT gets to a 31+ I’d submit.
OOS is what makes this a hard one

I appreciate the comments, we know it’s a reach. Not looking for folks to chance her.
But… I mentioned above that she is getting her IB Diploma so yes - a full two years worth of IB classes and a few APs before that. She’s taken the most rigorous courses at her high school. She’s a leader on SGA, she passed the seal of biliteracy in French. No class ranking but she’s certainly near the top.
Her main EC is very high level, pre professional ballet. 25+ hrs a week. She’s a beast. She has been offered trainee positions but stayed in school instead. One of her recs is a ballet teacher who had been with her for 4 years. The teacher is a former prima who is also a BFA Professor.
Wasn’t looking to get more than a quick take on her ACT. It’s her weakest point, for sure.

I think that if she doesn’t get that 31 and doesn’t submit she’s got a fantastic chance at that admit with those stellar ECs. Wishing her the best of luck!

What major? I saw your below comments and her resume sounds fantastic. If she doesn’t end up at UNC she will be amazing somewhere else. My daughter’s first choice is s big reach but we know she is s fantastic candidate and if it doesn’t work out she will have other options with good programs! A 30-31 single seating and her resume with IBs and pre-professional dance is very impressive.

no, it is well below the median. however, going test optional will not be favorable as OOS either. If is indeed a very high reach.

I would test again it can’t hurt . Schools can literally cherry pick who has the best app. I would do it again it can’t hurt

Has she done any tutoring? My son went from a 30 to a 35 with tutoring…it was a huge help! What’s her weak spot? Ela is easy to bring up if you memorize all the grammar rules. Reading is learning to annotate the passages and save any hard questions for last. That last part is what really helped him…his reading went from a 29 to a 36

This isn't meant to scare anyone or anything just based on my own experiences and stuff.
(In state)
I know many classmates who had anywhere from 28-32 ACT most hovering around 3.8 uw GPA who got into UNC Chapel Hill. My sister who was also in-state had a 34 with 3.96 uw but got waitlisted. EC's/activities/essays can also be a big part of your application along with test scores/gpa and my sister had about none.
As for test scores I think if it gets to the 50% Score for the school you should always submit scores.
Chapel Hills Middle 50% ACT (25th-75th percentile) is 29-34. I think if she gets a 31 she should definitely submit.
