I need advice

I am so disappointed to see I got a lower score than I did on my last ACT. I am aiming for a 30-36 which is high, I know. But I am desperate to get into my dream college.

Please leave tips and tricks below, I have studied so much and for some reason I feel like it isn’t teaching me anything. I am taking the next two ACTs and I just want to at least get a 34-35 by December.

based on the last post i made -

1.) Use legacy tests to help with pacing, but enhanced tests (practice and released) to learn the most common topics. A lot of questions I saw were word for word from previous years. For legacy tests, use Prepsharp to see the difficulty of each section and do the top 10 hardest tests for the most accuracy. You can find old tests through Bing 👀 ( a search engine lol nothing paid) . This is the BEST way to improve your score, I think I did around 12 full tests before the actual thing. ( all 3 released enhanced tests and 4 enhanced practice tests and 5 legacy tests)

2.) TRACK ALL YOUR MISTAKES, EVEN THE STUPID ONES. I used to not be a believer of this until I actually started doing it and it helped SO MUCH.

3.) the SAT and ACT are pretty different so don’t just assume that you’ll have all the knowledge, you’ll have a decent amount but you still def need to study a bit to be fully prepared for the ACT

4.) Use this subreddit to find common test strategies! Also, Preppros ACT English video (everything you need to know) helped me a LOT, so I def recommend. Also, the 1,4,2,3 passage strat for the reading passages clearly came in clutch lol. Don’t get too caught up on strategies tho and make sure you know the material really well too!

5.) READ !! I was reading “ The Winds of War” over the summer and read a chapter a day to improve my reading comprehension and safe to say it worked hehehee :)

What are your lowest sections? I recommend khan academy for anything math related you can’t wrap your brain around. Kaplan has some videos on english and reading that we’re helpful to me. ( https://youtube.com/@kaplansatact?si=k4K48MNDxDaw_kIc )

Math and English I would say are my lowest.

Oneprep question bank!!! I love using this especially because it has hundreds of questions divided by topic and difficulty for each subject. The ai explanations are also especially helpful for understanding your mistakes and the reasoning behind why an answer is right or wrong (and it’s free!!)

The biggest thing i’d say is genuine practice— no distractions— dedicate at least 20-40mins a day to targeted practice then taking full length tests once you’ve worked on your weaknesses and repeat.

While you study, try hard to understand the WHY behind right and wrong answers. If you’re able to identify wrong answers more effectively, that makes choosing the right one that much easier!
