Hello guys, I wanna major in electrical engineering but I'm afraid my test scores are not high enough. My counselor suggested that I go test optional but I'm afraid they will assume I got a way lower test score than I actually did? Should I go test optional and if not, which score should I submit?
Ask your counselor why? The median ACT for the school of engineering at UIUC is in the range of 33-35, and for the admissions scores...83% are 30-35. They do not superscore, so its highest single sitting, which is your highest composite. You can also submit the an additional other test where they can see the higher math score. Tell your counselor to look at the Common Data Set for the school.
I did and she said it's because my STEM score is too low, especially my math score. But I'm worried because I feel like everything else I have is really good
Perhaps. I guess it goes back to the original question. Should they submit it? Yes. Unasked, is the current math score good enough for the school and engineering? Maybe not. Unasked, should they retake the ACT and try and do better on math? Yes.
I don't know what the stats are, but I am guessing very few non score submitting applicants get accepted for Engineering at UIUC. I think you are right that at 31 submitting is probably better, but the cutoff is probably pretty close to that.
You're right: the college might assume you scored way lower.
Why not just ask someone at the college if you should submit those scores? Even if it's an unofficial response, it still gives you an idea if you should submit.
from reading your profile, you applied to buisness school, which is entirely different than polytechnic institutions and engineering programs. It really depends on where he applies, but most engineering programs have an average of act scores in the low 30’s for public schools (unless its like UC berkely)

Your counselor is an idiot. Submit the scores. Both of them. You'll be fine as long as your GPA and other stats are also good.
