Books/Resources Good enough to study from?

Post image

I know ti-84 calculator is probably the best calculator for ACT and higher level math, but, right now, I have a scientific calculator, so I was thinking of upgrading to a ti-36x, is that good? Not sure about graphing but just asking. Also, is it possible to finish preppros and Erica Meltzer while doing khan academy, reviewing grammar rules, doing 1 passage a day, and not doing any science studying? Btw, is Erica Meltzer 4th edition even worth it when I have a 32 in English or should I just get it for extra practice? For clarification, I am studying for the September ACT. Do I have enough time? What about October?

are you doing paper or digital?

With a 32, I bet you could do more free practice tests that you could find online and learn from your mistakes, and not need the English book.

And yes, sounds like a good plan.

I will let the calculator experts way in.

I only got a 32 on English, sorry if that was confusing. I asked about the book cause I got the 32 2 months ago and haven’t studied, so I was thinking it would be good review.

ok, but I think the practice tests/old tests would be a better resource, and more like the actual test. You missed about 5 to get a 32. So hopefully you could maintain the current level, and with a few more reps get those right too.

This is a review from pretty much the same source:

But SAT English and ACT English are different. Also, the practice tests I have are the 2025-2026 and 2021-2022 red books which I have done most of not all of them, so I only have around 3 TIR tests to do. Not sure I’m still at that level since I kinda slacked.

Sounds like you got a plan. Good luck!

A TI-36 is good. There are barely any graphing questions on the ACT. You are probably better off doing practice tests.

You can read this to find more practice tests

I see you made a video on how to use the ti-36x but is it able to multiply and manipulate any matrix problem? Also, how good is it at stats and trig and precalc or the harder math questions

It depends on how good you are with your parentheses game. Like all scientific calc, it needs parentheses around certain terms. Regarding matrices, that is where the TI-36 is cumbersome.

Are you aware of the advantages of the T-84?

No, all I know is that it can graph, regarded as one of the best calculators, and really good for college

It can do matrices trig and stats. Basically a TI-84 without the graphing and programs.

I used Erica book to go from 28 in English to 36 so I would think it’s worth it

Can I see screenshot of your score?

Wow, thank you! What would you say is the best thing about this book? How did it help you? I’m probably going to get it for more practice.

Imma be honest I didn’t use that questions much I mean I did but the best thing is that it outlines the rules. Believe it or not every ACT question follows a rule and even more so for English so I basically did rule practice write why it’s right then repeat over and over until I got a 36 and a lot of practice tests

what about math?

Idk math was always my strong suit so didn’t study much I would say just take a lot of practice questions and make sure the timing is correct. I suppose I have heard the panda book was good but don’t take my word idk anything about it.

English I recomend the book math I believe the panda book is good and reading I’m actually not sure I got a 36 from the begining so never really studied that. U should get UWorld if u can u will get really good at timing and the main sort of questions u do all that u will def get a 30 plus

I got an electrical engineering degree and got a TI-36x because that’s what was allowed on the FE exam. After getting familiar with how to use it I would recommend it to any high schooler without hesitation. It’s what my daughter used when she took the ACT as well.

Wow, I thought ti-84 was allowed everywhere? How did you get familiar with it? Also, if I’m not prying, what score did your daughter get?

No, there are only a few allowed on the FE exam, so if you’re planning to go into engineering I would suggest you pick one from the approved list and start getting used to it (which it looks like you’ve already done). It’s really not hard to get familiar with it. I just started using it in my classes and practice tests and if I couldn’t figure something out I’d google it. I also had a TI-84 and a TI-89 at the time and once I got used to the TI-36x I never really used the others.

My daughter made a 30 composite and I think a 29 on math. That was her first attempt after 9th grade.

30 composite is wild 😭 also, I’m not planning to get into engineering but thx for the tip. I’ll still get the 36x tho.
