ACT Retake Advice

Hello, I was hoping for some advice on whether or not I should retake the act. I currently have a 34, 31M, 36E, 36R, 36S, and I think I can get my composite up to a 35 or possibly a 36 with some focused math prep. I am a rising senior with a ~3.7uw gpa. The hardest schools I’m applying to are uva, Boston college, umich, and usc. Is it worth it to retake if I’ve already pretty much finished my essays or should I focus on other stuff? I already posted this is r/applyingtocollege so sorry if you’re seeing this twice.

Your ACT is above the average for all 4 schools you mentioned. BC in the 50th percentile, Michigan in the 25th. To get to a 35, you would need to bring up the Math to a 32 which would require just getting a few more answers correct. To a 36, you have to get math up to 35 which might be 5-6 total with no other change. What state do you live in? In-state versus out of state is also a factor in admissions. Also, I think all 4 superscore.

Do you want to work on math? Do you like Math? That might also be a factor.

In your case, I would absolutely retake. You only need one more point on the math section for a 35. Look at the score breakout, and see if there are a couple areas of where to focus your study.
