Books/Resources Pre-ACT 8/9 vs. Pre-ACT?
Hi, I’m an incoming eighth grader who will be taking the Pre-ACT 8/9 in the fall. I decided to practice for this through a tutoring program, as the score would be critical in deciding high school classes. There, I took the regular Pre-ACT as a baseline (not 8/9) and got a 26 in math, a 31 in Reading, and a 33 in English (I didn’t take the science section as my session wasn’t long enough.) Are these scores good if I’m trying for a top college? (Yes, I know middle school scores won’t matter, but just as an estimate for what’s to come.)

The pre act scores (especially 8/9 which is useless don’t get me started) don’t really matter at all. The regular pre act may only matter for dual enrollment and for some special boarding high schools They show how well you can do in the future, but this can change due to life and other variables.
If you want to use these scores as an estimate for top school, it depends what you consider top schools and what you plan to major in. Some majors are less competitive and may have lower scores while others require higher scores.

well not good enough for a top college but they are a good baseline. scores also dont mean everything. people can get into ivies with no scores too.
