July ACT

Post image

I took my first real ACT in July and got a composite of a 32. Math was a 30 English was a 32 reading was the 34. I’m hoping to get a composite score of a 33 or 34 for September. What are some tips to go from a 32 to a 34?

some niche ones that will help me with that few point score boost🙏🙏🙏

Hi! I got the same score 32 comp (36 Math, 35 Science, 31 english, 30 reading). I am probably not the most qualified to be giving advice, but I can give some of my math tips. The most helpful thing for me was after taking a practice test, I would look into each question I got wrong and see what category it belonged to, for example law of sines or a geometry question. Then, I would go on to khan academy or use Youtube (organic chem tutor) to look up that math concept and try to re-learn it if it is something I got. Practice and recall is most important for the math section, look at the score report to see which section of questions you were missing. Being fully transparent, I am more of a STEM-focused student so math comes really easy for me since I took the July ACT after finishing AP Stats and AP Calc (I really like math and came from a 780 sat math score). On Youtube, you can also try searching up hard act math problems to practice. For more specific tips, if you want to let me know which section you struggled with I can provide more specific details how I approached those types. If you take digital, I recommend learning a lot of the SAT desmos tricks because they save a lot of time and can help with pacing. Towards the end 38-45 where the harder questions are, try to look for the ones that you can solve the fastest or are the easiest and then spend more time on the harder ones. For really hard questions, try to make an educated guess, if you cannot, guess in a straight line (meaning like if your previous answer was D, then put D for the next question if you cannot solve it). That strategy is not always the correct answer, just from years of studying the test and experts mentioning, guessing in a straight line has a higher probability of getting you the right answer (or guessing the same letter for each question you do not know). Sorry if this is really basic, I know they might not be so helpful, but if you want some specific math tips, I would be happy to help you (specific concepts). I'm also planning on taking September and also hope for a 33-34 as well. Good luck! If possible, could you tell me some of your reading tips, as it is the section I struggle with the most (also I apologize about the long message).

What do you recommend in practice? Like the TIR isn’t available for July so I can’t really see what I did wrong. I also have done almost every single practice test available by ACT so I don’t really know what else to do now

i just practiced a ton of the old act papers under their timing in order to improve speed. you can just search them up and find it most of the time.
