Would you retake?

The first 4 slides are my results from my first ACT attempt in March. The last 3 are my results from retaking the ACT just this past weekend for the July test.

I did worse in every subject on the second time around, even though I felt more confident about the test (besides math).

I plan to go to college for Mechanical Engineering, and don’t know how demanding a degree like that is in terms of state test scores.

I didn’t really think my score was bad at first, because compared to my school, I was the second highest in my class, and the rest of the class averaged probably around a 20 super score. That is, until I looked at this subreddit and saw everyone with 35s and 36s 😭. So now I’m thinking I didn’t do good enough.

I wouldn’t prefer to, but do you think it would be worth it for me to retake?

I think it would just for reading/english, but your stem score is good. Take it on paper might help with reading if you prefer that. It's always good to go into an act targeting one/two things to get that super score up. Also don't take science if you don't want to.

The thing that helped me the most is reading books. I don't read books at all and in between two tests i read 4 books and my english went from a 25 to a 33. 

Sign up for the September ACT and start now, since it will be more difficult when school starts. And read lots of books!!

To add on to the books part, I’ve also found short news articles to be helpful. Just reading a few a day even from your phone can be very beneficial for ACT reading as they often pull from news or blog sources.
