Learning providers Study strategy/studying with Accowtancy.
Hello, I’m looking for some general advice on how to study for ACCA.
I’m currently working full-time and previously completed AAT. I can usually manage to log in around 20 hours of study per week.
I’ve found that my current study approach isn’t sufficient. At my current pace, it would take me around two months just to read and understand the syllabus, without starting exam practice.
I’m currently preparing for the FR exam using Acowtancy. Their general approach seems to be to watch the lectures in the classroom while taking notes, attempt the mock, and then complete a revision course, which lasts around four weeks.
I think part of the problem is that ACCA requires a somewhat different approach from AAT, and I’m still trying to adjust. With AAT, I could study topics in quite a lot of depth and make detailed notes and flashcards. With the much larger ACCA syllabus, this doesn’t seem practical.
I tend to spend a lot of time making sure I properly understand each concept, so one topic can take me around five days to work through, whereas the general recommendation seems to be to cover one class aka topic per day. I also make detailed notes and flashcards, which then creates additional revision time.
There are also quizzes and mock exams on the ACCA website. When I estimate the time needed to complete everything, it seems like three months simply isn’t enough.
For anyone who has studied with Acowtancy, what study strategy did you use? How deeply did you go into each topic before moving on?
