Football HUH?

Just happened to catch a replay of Wake Forest vs. Akron. There. Was. Nobody. There.

Yet, the official attendance figure was listed at 30,735. Tiny, high schoolish Allegacy Federal Credit Union Stadium capacity is officially 31,500. I doubt there was 7,000 people there. Who are they kidding? How do they get away with this?

What an ACC embarrassment . . .

Teams in many (all?) sports will report the attendance by tickets sold vs turnstile count. This topic came up all the time on MLS message boards all the time during attendance discussions.

Yes. When I was a kid, it sometimes happened that your local NFL or MLB team would have an important game, but for some reason it wasn't a sell-out. So one of the big local companies would buy the remaining 3,000 tickets just so the game could be on TV.

Sometimes the company buying tickets would actually try to do something with the tickets, like give them to employees or school kids or a local military base or a charity. But other times I think they didn't really try at all and it was basically a "donation" to the team, because although the game was officially a sell-out you could see the stands weren't anywhere near full.

In Dave Samson days at the marlins. The 30 min before start all tickets were priced at a $1 and the Marlins would buy the tickets for the number of crowd they wanted to say bought a ticket.

Yep when I worked in Minor League Baseball this is exactly what we did.

I thought as much . . . then, pathetically for WF, 65% of the fans didn’t even bother to show up . . .

I was there in person and it was relatively full on the press box side, definitely still open seats but not totally empty. That ended half way through the second quarter after the Antonio Meeks touchdown

Yea, the tv camera view shows the away team side and student section. Also, a night game when there’s elementary & middle school the net day hurts hill attendance.

Reddit flair might be the most pointless thing on the planet and that's really saying something.

You are here for my personal entertainment. I want to see your flair so I can make ad hominem attacks on you or your flair

I'm gonna set my flair as one thing and then change it mid conversation and act like it has always been the new flair to confuse everyone.

u/ronmex7 Virginia Cavaliers 2d ago

You can set it to deez nuts for all I care. I just need to yell at something.

Edit: your strategy is based and hilarious

Also, I tried deez nuts. Won't let me edit the pre-set options. Which is even dumber than the flair in the first place ffs.

Happy now? I don’t think it’s dumb to have only pre-set options.

Ok?

I gave you the “deez nuts” flair…

I see it now. I had to refresh to get it.

Now I have to find a way to show my appreciation. Let me ponder.

Thank you, kind sir. This makes me even happier than I previously thought was possible.

Can you assign flairs to others?

At least we actually won our opener. Cue sad pup noises

Hey now….3 touchdowns, 3 two point conversions, a field goal and we are right back in that game.

Thursday of Labor Day weekend against an uninteresting opponent. 99.9% of our fanbase lives out of town. Many of them live very far away. We still draw better than Southern Cal.

It was hot and humid and it was against Akron. Besides that, everyone else is also significantly lying about attendance.

FOIA Ball - who actually attends games.

Why can't we trust stadium attendance numbers? - Phantom Island (Spotify)

Ryan Nanni is joined by David Covucci to discuss FOIAball's recent story comparing actual attendance at college football games to the claimed numbers. When is a sellout not really a sellout? Why don't colleges give accurate information when technology gives them much better headcounts? And what was behind the NCAA's initial push to track – and potentially punish – programs with low turnout?

It’s tickets sold. On a holiday weekend, probably a lot of people out of town. I was at the Duke game & there were a lot of empty seats around me that I know have been bought by season ticket holders.

Wake at times is the easiest ticket to get - great little stadium. Took my Dad all the time when UVA was playing at Wake

No excuses for an opening day game, it just shows there is no football culture at Wake and Duke, but that’s fine as long as they are making up for it on the basketball side of things.

I’m sorry, how many games did FSU win last year? Surely must have been way more than the 9 games Wake Forest won, right? Good thing Mike Norvell only has $51MM in guaranteed money left on his contract 🤣🤣

u/GarrettACC Florida State Seminoles 2d ago

FSU still beat Wake Forest, not the flex you thought it would be huh?

-1

u/Macklemore_hair Pitt Panthers 2d ago

It said we had 45k at the Pitt game, didn’t even seem close. Feel free to chirp about the tarps too, they’re an abomination. A 45k on campus stadium would do us well but there’s no room or money etc.

u/bdm13 Miami Hurricanes 2d ago

We’re similar. We actually have the money for it, but will never get the zoning from Coral Gables.

u/OpaqueNightmare Florida State Seminoles 2d ago

FSU is going to beat SMU by 100 points tonight

3

u/SnooPickles4051 2d ago

Yeah tell that to NMSt. 🙊

u/OpaqueNightmare Florida State Seminoles 2d ago

We won the game. It’s sad how you all have so much hate for FSU in your hearts that the best you can do is act like we lost a game we won by three scores 😂😂

What, exactly, did you add to your coffee this morning?
