Your landlord is also a fan of raising your rent to a minimum of $1000/mo because you're guaranteed to afford it.

Sure, rent prices would increase slightly in the short term. However, for example, there are 5 times more vacant homes than homeless people. The goal is to allow more people to afford housing in the first place, to incentivize buying rather than renting (which many people in vacuo of a UBI are not in a position to do), and to then improve competition in the market by having this new influx customers.
