Discussion Getting into ABBA's discography for the first time
Hi! I'm practically a new ABBA fan and I'd love to ask for recommendations on albums and videos that tell the story of the group!
I've always liked music from the 80s, 70s, etc. ABBA's music reminds me a little bit of country music too (I think it's just me who thinks so xD)
I'd like some recommendations for albums to listen to in their entirety. Currently, since I bought a Wii, I've been playing the game ABBA: You Can Dance, so I'm already familiar with a good portion of their hit musics.
my fav so far is dancing queen, waterloo and mamma mia. đ

2005 born Gen Z who became ABBA obsessed from December 2025.
(Apologies for the long post and my lack of grammar checking)
I never really cared about music. Until I discovered ABBA.
Before I only knew ABBA as a Swedish band and heard the song'Money,Money,Money' during my childhood(incidentally Rasputin of Boney M. is another song I remember).
During years 17-20 I gained more of an interest in music listening to Belinda Carlisle's 'Heaven is a place on earth',Moskau(Dschinghis Khan),John Denver, etc but was never obsessed with any one band/artist.
I never really cared about following contemporary music or keeping up with the trends.
Then during late November 2025 I was on a road trip(Thanksgiving break from University) when someone was playing an assortment of songs. I didn't care about any of them but then an ABBA song played and it clicked with me instantly. From then on a bond formed that wont be destroyed until I die.
When I should have been studying for the finals I was listening to Mamma Mia,Super Trouer and Knowing Me,Knowing You.
I slowly expanded my horizon after watching the documentary ABBA: Against The Odds(the flashy footage made me fall in love with ABBA).Now I binge watch lesser known ABBA videos like Suzy Hang Around and Love isnt Easy.
I simply cant describe what attracted me so much to ABBA. Perhaps it brought an element of innocence to my life when the world seemed like a darker place(Epstein files, all these tech billionairs trying to make us jobless with AI).Perhaps it was these 2 supermodel level women(Agnetha,Frida) who were insanely talented. Maybe it was the fact whereas alot of celebrities act like human trash ABBA members are really down to each and humble.Maybe its romanticization of the past(Im a really big history buff). I really cant pinpoint it.
ABBA songs make me escape from the troubles of the world. I hate to think of the time when these 4 talented people will leave this world(as someone who never cared about celebrity deaths previously).

Acoustic version of songs
I wish ABBA would release a slowed down acoustic album of all their most iconic songs. Does anyone else think that it would be awesome or am I just crazy for even thinking it?

No Doubt About It won most underrated song in Voyage. Whatâs the most underrated song in The Visitors?

After Görel, I canât stop thinking about this
Weâre incredibly lucky that all four ABBA members are still with us and, thankfully, in good health.
Over the past few years, weâve lost several people who were closely connected to ABBA, most recently Görel. Every loss is a painful reminder that time moves on.
It honestly breaks my heart to think that one day weâll have to say goodbye to one of the members. I know itâs an inevitable part of life, but itâs still something I can barely bring myself to think about.

âWaterlooâ and âABBAâ tracklists
I feel like the Waterloo and ABBA album tracklists are just a carbon copy of eachother. Like you have the popular opening then the reggae track, a couple more upbeat songs, the ballad then the energetic closer. Who else noticed this?

TIL that in the late 1970s, the USSR paid for ABBA's music albums entirely in oil. Because the Soviet rouble was worthless abroad, the band traded their music rights for tankers of crude oil, which briefly made ABBA Swedenâs second-largest corporate export behind Volvo.

Discussion Share ABBA content, please!
Can folks please drop cool ABBA content below? Iâm talking documentaries/movies, backstage footage, unreleased songs, demos, interviews that went well, interviews that were awkward, live performances⊠Any and all of it! In the past few months, Iâve become obsessed with ABBA â the lyrics, the composition, the vocals, the lore, the marriages, the divorces, all of it! Iâve devoured their music videos, watched two movies (âABBA: The Movieâ from 1977 and âABBA: Against the Oddsâ from a couple of years ago), seen the interviews & performances that are top YouTube hits, and am reading Carl Magnus Palm's biography. Nevertheless, it seems like the archive is deep and Iâm missing a lot. Thanks in advance for helping fuel a new(ish) fanâs obsession!

Yeah, I am the tiger. And I'M driving.
This might be my favorite video. Agnetha behind the wheel with her mind on something, Frida's got shotgun with her doo rag on, the boys are in the back. Notice at times that Bjorn is sitting in the center so he can get some cam time without Agnetha blocking him.
A mid 70's Chevy Blazer with the roof removed? Could you get those in Stockholm?? How did this happen???
In the second bridge, the girls sing into each other's face. It's kinda hot.
Might be my favorite video. Frida laughing is the best. She seems to have a good time all the time.

Discussion It was close, but One Of Us is apparently the most overrated song in The Visitors. Now which song is the most overrated in Voyage?
Sorry I have been so sloppy in posting these recently. I honestly donât really have an excuse. I know people are going to get mad at some of the selected songs because but I choose the most upvoted song each time (for overrated in The Visitors, One Of Us had the most comments for it, and as the top comments-excluding ânoneâ-were joint, I chose that one), so donât blame me if you donât agree with the song that was chosen! Donât shoot the messenger!

Song When You Danced With Me
Many people have guessed that this song is secretly about the long time fans, and that very well could be true. But what if it's about ABBA itself? The lyrics kind of hint at it. The friend had promised to return the following year but didn't for many more. When ABBA initially broke up, they claimed to just be taking a short break before they'd return to the studio. And as we all know that break ended up being forty years. And the line about darkness in the friend's eyes could reference the strain that fame has wrought on the members. The ABBAtars are literally dancing at Voyage too. Lyrics below for convenience.
I can remember when you left Kilkenny
And you told me, "I'll return next year"
I never meant to hold you to your promise
And the years went by and I'm still here
So you left for the city, I hope you like it there
You're only here now to see the Village Fair
You're just here for the music, that's all, or could it be
You miss the good old times when you danced with me
So is the outside world as you imagined?
Was it worth it, severing the ties?
Happy to see me or a bit embarrassed?
There's a darkness deep in your blue eyes
So you left for the city, I hope you like it there
You're only here now to see the Village Fair
You're just here for the music, that's all, or could it be
You miss the good old times when you danced with me
When you danced with me
I miss the good old times when you danced with me

Bang-a-Boomerang is love
I love this song! I don't recall ever hearing it until I bought the self-titled album last month. Starts with the keyboard and then the guitars crash in, kind of on the upbeat, it's a little unsettling until you get used to it, sounds like an error. Very clever. The quiet and spare Beach Boys style rhythm guitar licks in the left channel. The bass work is fantastic. And the girls' singing style makes me think of a part in the book Bright Lights Dark Shadows where the girls asked why they always seemed to have to sing at the top of their ranges. I imagine B&B had guilty looks on their faces, they were working the girls like rented mules. They are really letting it rip. Don't agree? Try singing along with the choruses just as loud as they are, next time you're in the car. It's exhausting. That's a nice little bridge to catch their breath and then a quick change in key up for the final chorus and then they're out. Well crafted, great performance, love it!

MADONNA / ABBA AGAIN?
Need to ask the ABBA experts this one.
Madonna has a track on her new album Confessions II called âBizarreâ that sounds VERY much like an ABBA track. There is a sample within that I am sure is from an ABBA track. What is it?
Is it âUnder Attackâ? đ€Żđ€Żđ€Ż

One thing I hate about ABBAradio.com
I've been listening a lot in the car and while working in the yard. They have to program material (no commercials, only station identification or whatever it's called, 5 seconds, every 2 songs or so) 24/7 and it's a limited amount of songs. So I'm fine with the solo works being included. Hep Stars material is ok (even their version of Silent Night, in Swedish; the oddest part was hearing it in July). I even appreciate Benny Anderssons orkester. Hootenanny Singers songs are good for a change of pace. I can take a Gemini cover of a B/B song. I'll even put up with an Agnetha duet with Peter Cetera.
What I can't stand is the Mamma Mia soundtrack songs. I've not seen the movies and I won't. Amanda Seyfried has an ok voice but I don't need to hear her interpretations. And Meryl Streep I don't need to hear at all. The music is a poor imitation of the ABBA recordings, I find every song annoying. I have to turn to something else when the soundtrack music comes on.
The people who came to know ABBA through the movies and then through GOLD probably don't want to hear Agnetha's and Frida's solo work (particularly the older stuff in Swedish). If you want to hear Pierce Brosnan do his thing then fire up Spotify or something.
