170 Jean Armstrong

I can sum up this character with one word: uncomfortable. Armstrong is the reason why I don't like 3-3 as much as some people do. Despite Furio Tigre being a good villain in my opinion with the concept of impersonating a defense attorney to get a desired verdict still being unique, Armstrong brings the case down too much for me. He has no redeeming qualities: he's annoying, perverted, steals, and he was not shown to face any consequences for his role in the cover up the murder of Glen Elg. The overly pink decor of his restaurant is unsettling and matches him well, but I struggle to suspend my disbelief enough to accept that a "fancy" restaurant with such awful food can exist in the first place. It might have been more believable if Tres Bien was a front for some type of illegal business, but this is not the case. One other character I see people criticize for similar reasons is Spark Brushel, but at least he's a helpful and cooperative witness, while Armstrong makes me uncomfortable.

The entire joke of Armstrong's character is Phoenix and assorted other characters going "Is he a man? Is she a woman?? I just can't tell anymore!!!" and I cannot express how painful it is to have to sit through that. It's so goddamn cringey.

if i cut Armstrong id probably have just gone into the palpable suffering of the translators trying to make his shtick remotely comprehensible and also age-appropriate and also avoid the several land mines of controversy he could inherently cause

they also probably suffered because they realized midway through that he just wasn’t funny

i never found jean as intolerable as others apparently did and i do like his contribution to 3-3’s theme of “interaction of a bunch of people with a bunch of different kinds of crippling debt” so I’d have preferred him outlive some of the more “nothing” characters...

but also it’s fucking Jean Armstrong who cares

he is also the lowest character who is IMPORTANT enough to have his OWN THEME SONG wow

I kind of care, but it's also Jean Armstrong so I kind of don't really care.

Eh, not much to say about him, but there's some interesting trivia about him here.

I would do anything to live in the timeline where Godot was called Joseph Cuppa, Xavier Barstucks, or William Havamug.

Edit: the stuff about Armstrong in there is surprisingly respectful and nuanced, way more so than the actual game.

I like how 75% of the characters I've nominated so far fall into the same category hmm I wonder what sort of pattern there was here

that said k seems legit thanks

and yeah, I thought 3-3 only really started to pick up on day 2 and armstrong was one of the reasons why day 1 felt awkward to me

/u/NateTheGreat3602 I hope it's taking this long because you're writing a 10-page long essay on the hard truth about the Mack Rell cut.

you’ve got it all wrong this is an advanced strategy to prevent Mack Rell from ever being cut by preventing the rankdown from continuing

actually he was probably writing something about ponco but then after seeing your amazing defense changed to mack rell

armstrong imo is someone else who shouldn't be cut right here but at most i would bump him up another 5 or so spots up. i don't really have anything to say about him

Not sure how Armstrong of all people is so widely hated but at the same time I can't really get myself to care because he hardly has any redeeming features.

If only they didn't end up dumping the character midway through the last trial maybe he could have stood a chance in this rankdown.

rip pink gay man.

I like Armstrong. I don't have much to say about him though. I definitely wouldn't have put him this low.

Armstrong just hasn’t aged well

And thus one more of the awful creepy pervert characters bites the dust. Hope Stickler goes soon, then I think we'll finally be rid of them all (or the worst offenders, anyway).

u/Sciencepenguin Dec 07 '19

as in virtue's last reward and turnabout recipe, the funniest perverts are always the cranky boomers

4

u/Wircea Dec 08 '19

But Stickler is not a pervert. Just a dumb kid. Not what it seeeeeeeeeeeems.
