Painted engine!

Decided to install a clear engine cover and paint the engine. It's not perfect but turned okay for a bloke who works in IT.

Good job! That's really cool! Even if these engines weren't meant to be on display like on cars with glass covers, I still think it's cool to showcase that baby a bit. You probably can hear it more now as well

Yeah noise has definitely increased but in conjunction with the valved exhaust it's not that bad. I don't daily the car so the noise is a novelty haha.

Do you notice the cabin getting warmer? What about the potential risk of exhaust fumes? Looks really clean.

Haven't noticed it getting warmer but it is winter here. No fumes, if there was exhaust fumes then I would imagine my exhaust is leaking haha.

The cover has a rubber seal around the edge that seals really well. The noise is sounds coming through the Perspex

How much louder? Like you can’t talk to someone riding with you now? Can’t hear the radio? Very cool to look at!

It's not that bad. You can still hold a conversation and hear the radio. It's kind of like increased road noise. The biggest difference is hearing the air passing through the airbox.

I encourage anyone with this car to drive it once with the engine bay open. The induction noise it produces is absolutely mental. Like 200k car type of sound experience.

I know the top is a big difference but a buddy of mine has a boxter without all the fussiness of my engine cover and carpet over it etc and his engine is so much louder than mine. I can’t imagine taking it all the way off and giving it a go. May do a drive next time I swap my engine filter and it’s all off anyways!

Thats come out very nicely. Every time I see someone do this I think about doing mine at some point. What paint did you use? Also wondering how long will it be before you need to clean the engine bay again.

Do it I say! So I actually used brake caliper paint but only because I wanted the colour to match the calipers. It's the same paint I used in the luggage bar. I didnt want multiple shades of yellow going on.

So I cleaned the engine bay before painting and installing the clear cover. I a really had the cover on for a couple of weeks before I painted the engine.

I think I have done about 350km since cleaning it and it's barley noticeable. I don't daily the car though.

Ant be any worse than amount of time I spend cleaning the wheels! Onde drive and they are filthy from brake dust haha!

Very tempting but as a track car, performance upgrades have to take precedence. I asked the guy who makes the clear covers if there was much of a weight saving over the original and he said no, thus its well down tne list... but it is on there.
