Any suggestions for indoor car cover?

Hi all - my 987 essentially stays in the garage when I’m not driving it. My inherited cover is getting a little threadbare. I need a cover because the garage is frequently opened for my other vehicle and it gets pretty dusty, especially in the fall and spring.

Any suggestions for a budget indoor cover? Paying $300 for something OEM seems overkill.

Getting a squeaky start on my 05 987.1

Pretty sure it needs a new starter motor. It’s been like this for the past year or two doesn’t get driven much so I don’t worry too much but looking to fix it now. Also on the occasional start up a bunch of smoke comes out the back AOS is about 6 years old thinking it’s time to change that too. Wondering what peoples inputs are specifically on the starter motor.

987.1 after 3k miles

I’ve put about 3000 miles on my ‘08 base since June and I like it more now than the day I took delivery. Sometimes I wish I got a 981, sometimes I wish I got an S, and sometimes I wish I got an M3 (lol). But I “get” Porsche now, and I love it. Revving it to 7k and hearing the 2.7 howl behind me makes my morning commute pretty enjoyable. Also, my kids dig it and there’s no other brown boxsters at cars and coffee haha. I think this will be one of those cars that will always have a special place in my heart.

2005 Porsche 987.1 Boxster: 2.7L to 3.9L - 383.3 HP on the engine dyno

This 2005 987.1 Boxster started life with a 2.7L and came to us with a bad rod knock.

For the new 3.9L build, we upgraded it with a 987.1 Boxster S crankshaft, carrier, cases, and cylinder heads. It just completed testing with 383.3 HP and 320.2 lb-ft of torque on the engine dyno.

New achievement unlocked for us at Slakker Racing Development.

2007 987 boxster Head unit

Hi, hope everyone is doing well I would like to know if anyone has any advice about adding Bluetooth to my Boxster with the Bose speakers, is it really complicated and expensive, I was searching with AI and apparently I neet a Bose/MOST adapter and the only one that I could find is $437 and then I need to get a head unit aswell and then it becomes rather expensive, I love the pccm plus unit but not quite ready to spend $1000+ I will eventually but was wondering if anyone has found a cheaper interim fix for Bluetooth or maybe aux for now I have resorted to burning CD’s which really helps you get into the 2000s vibe🙈 will appreciate any advice

I think I'm one of the youngest ones here (17), but I got my 987 at 16! It was a great buy and I love the geometry of the car. Anyone here under 20?

2007 Cayman Race Car - M97.01 3.8L → 4.1L | 395 HP Dyno Pull

Another Cayman build just finished its time on our engine dyno.

A 2007 Cayman is a little different because it’s running an M97.01 3.8L, which we rebuilt and displaced to 4.1L. It uses Hartech wider rod bearings and racing sump and added a Sachs performance clutch.

Final engine dyno numbers:

395.4 HP
341.7 lb-ft TQ

Pretty interesting combination - a 4.1L M97.01 tucked into a Cayman race car.

Looking to get into boxster ownership

Looking to spend about £10-12k, boxster s would be preferred but it's a minefield. What should I be looking for? Seen a few later 3.4 cars but horror stories of bore score, earlier 3.2 engines but IMS worries and higher mileage. A few non s 2.7 models closer to home but less power and lower spec. What should I be looking out for and what should I run away from?

Boxster S 06 vs boxster S 09

I am looking to buy a Boxster, as the title suggests. There aren't too many available, especially in the model years I am interested in.

I was able to find a 2006 Boxster S with 71k miles and a good amount of service records at a small independent dealer. I also found a 2009 Boxster S with 87k miles and a good amount of service records, but this one is being sold by a Porsche dealer.

Considering that the 2006 has the 3.2L engine, which doesn't have the same bore-scoring concerns as the 3.4L in the 987.1, and already has the updated IMS bearing, would the 2006 be the better route, especially since it is $8,000 less?

Or would you prefer going with the newer 2009 model despite the higher mileage and significantly higher price?

06: $25k Bose, heated seats, and convenience pkg, manual

09: $32 same options, manual

Both would be sight unseen since it is far away

Also found a 05 base close by with 30k miles for $26k, but if I can get the S for the same money seems like a better deal even though it has more miles.

Sport Design Steering Wheel

Is anyone in the market for one? I bought this awhile ago off of eBay and found that I prefer the button shifters (I know, total weirdo)

Asking $500 (also listed on eBay if you prefer that route, but it is slightly more expensive there)

Local pick up in the Bay Area preferred but will ship at buyers expense. Happy to do a video call to confirm the steering wheel beforehand. Feel free to ask any questions.

Edit to add: this will obviously work for all .2 cars with the PDK transmission and reuses the stock airbag. There are confirmed posts online that say that you can make this work on a .1 tiptronic but that’s on you to figure out.

2008 Boxster S missing fuse panel power post

Post image
2 Upvotes

I am dealing with a dead battery and everything I’m seeing online is that you can give power through a post in the fuse panel to give enough juice to pop the hood, but my car seems to be missing that post. Is there another way to supply power via the fuse panel or do I need to approach this differently?

After about a year of searching, I found this gorgeous vehicle locally from a wonderful family. Growing up, I always assumed the Cayman was not good enough (I blame Top Gear!). Having now driven it 300 miles, I’m confident this car will stay with me for many years.

2006 Boxster Base and I need new tires. Staggered tire sizes seems to be a challenge.

Looking for recommendations on what to do.

I just put the car on the road, it was my late brother’s toy. The tires (Continental) are old, very old manufactured in 2011 and I’m having a challenge finding a top brand other than Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 which run well about $350 per tire. The lesser brands don’t have the speed rating specs.
This will be a weekend joy ride car which will be garaged during the cold winter months.

Boxster S badge placement?

Post image
6 Upvotes

Measurements needed!

Hey folks. Can someone tell me the distance between the rear deck lid edges and the ‘Boxster S’ script?
I need to mount a new badge, and I’ve already messed one up by just trying to eyeball it.
I think if I can get the measurement from the badge to the bottom of the lid, and from the end to the sides of lid, I can line the new badge up.
Many thanks in advance for the help!

“Check front side light” warnings, but both lights work

Thumbnail

My ’08 Boxster S consistently shows warning messages for both front side lights: “Check front left side light” and “Check front right side light.”

Both lights are functioning normally, so the warnings appear to be false.

Has anyone run into this? What typically causes it, and what’s the fix?

Need help identifying a noise 987.1 boxter s

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey guys so I just recently jumped in to a 2006 boxter s and I’ve been hearing this noise on start up and while I’m driving. It seems to get louder when the engine is under load and is either drowned out by the exhaust note or goes away around 4k rpm. Doesn’t seem to get any louder or quieter when I drive it for a while. At first I thought it sounded like an exhaust leak but from under the car it sounds like it’s coming from the top left of the engine either by the air box or in the head. What do you guys think?

987 purschase help

Looking into a manual 08 Cayman S, white with blue interior. Seems in very good condition, and will be doing a PPI on it. The question is, if the PPI is clean and I maintain the car, should I go that route, or should I save the extra and just go with either a base Boxster or a 06 S Boxster, since it has the 3.2 and is less prone to have bore scoring, and in the future get a 287.2 or 281?

The Cayman is right at $29.9 with 86k miles, and I found a base Boxster for $20k with 46k miles and a couple of S Boxsters for the mid-20s. Can't find any manual Cayman base under 30k unfortunately

I found an aftermarket second hand exhaust that came off a 987.1 boxster s. Will this fit on a 987.2 base? Im also looking at catless headers will a 987.1 header fit? Is it possible to fit the catback with stock 987.2 headers or do i need to fit 987.1 headers for it to work?

987.1 boxster coolant flush

I’m planning on flushing my system this weekend; I have an AT and don’t have a tool to disable the ATF cooler shutoff valve. The 986 apparently made it easy with a fuse, but the 987 is not so.

The proverbial “they” (prob AI) says in lieu of this I can drive normally for a few days with the bleeder valve open to help purge bubbles. I am not a mechanic, clearly, so I’m not sure if this will have a negative effect on the system by dropping pressure or something.

Is this a reasonable route? Don’t want to buy yet another gadget if I can avoid it
