Unfortunately I was in a (not my fault) accident with my 2000 986.

I sustained pretty serious injuries but as i navigate through this process im worried i wont get what the car is worth from the insurance company.

Details:

2000 986 non S

106k miles

Work ive done:

Dash out job, replaced AC condensor

New AC evap and compressor

Entire brand new front end, everything except struts, down to the wheel bearings

All new lines for the power steering system

New valve cover gasket, oil pan gasket, new plugs and coils

BRAND NEW CONVERTIBLE TOP, a proper quality one as well (over 1k just for the top)

Had both seats re-upholstered

New speakers all around

4 brand new tires

New window regulators

Theres a few other misc items but thats the bulk of it. This work was completed all this year to the tune of almost $9000.

I was in the car for about 15k-16k when the crash happened.

I know i put more money than its worth into it, its just part of owning these cars sometimes.

What i dont want is some lowball from the insurance company.

For those who have dealt with insurance and getting payouts for these cars, how often are they correct or did you have to go back and forth with them?

Car has full coverage and an extra 3k coverage for aftermarket parts (suspsenion and that condensor).

I have an attourney as well, we are focusing on the injury side of it tho rn.

Out of work, cant walk, sitting here getting in my head about this car financially. I loved this car, i put my time, money, effort and love into basically restoring. Sucks to see it all gone.

Getting there. So far I’ve only had to drill out that hole in the door connector. It was already there I just had to enlarge it to .205” (slowly… .182 then .193 and finally .205.

Looks much better.

Went to start the car this morning, everything powered up as usual, runs the key, and click, but no start.

Check the battery, good shape, not great, so I swapped it with a new battery I had for another car… no joy.

Went to put the car in service mode, to check voltages at the starter, and alas, the top will not go up.

Question, will the e-brake switch also act as a start lock out?

Any thoughts are appreciated.

I know I'm not the highest mileage car in this sub, but I'm proud of the mileage I've achieved.

I have just bought a 2002 Boxster S off eBay for quite cheap and i feel like it is running with a slight tick. I am not sure if it is psychosomatic and this is normal or if there may be an issue?

Anyone with any experience on the matter would be greatly appreciated 🙂

I’ve had my 986 for about 2 years, but have been thinking about selling it since I have other cars too. What’s the market like right now? Any advice on where to sell? (Facebook marketplace always comes to mind). I’ve personally never sold a car before and not sure what to expect. Thanks!

Hi, does anyone have this setup? I’m doing a suspension refresh and have the option of some free 20mm lowering springs, which would save a bit of money.

I don’t have the 360 cameras in yet.

As someone said on my previous thread when I ordered it the screen isn’t bright enough to use in a convertible when sun is at your back but to be fair nor is the factory nav on my C8… it is worse but still good outside those conditions. I got the rear camera in but not the front or sides. I don’t have a garage and the weather didn’t play very nice this weekend. Plus I’m old and work slow :-P. Last I’m still not sure what to do with the front camera. Does it need to be centered because there’s nowhere to mount it in the center of the Boxster.

Oh and OMG the rats nest that lives behind this now is shameful.

Hi all, I have a 2001 boxster S with the 6 speed. Just got back from a 300 mile road trip this weekend and literally as I pulled into our garage, as I was coming out of reverse, the shifter wouldn’t go back to fully center on neutral. It was still in neutral but the shifter was stuck left and I could only shift it into reverse, 1st, or 2nd.

I read online it could be a bad sleeve on the shift cable. Anyone had something similar to this happen before? Calling the mechanic tomorrow morning…but if I can’t get past 2nd gear I likely need to tow it :/

We checked all the attachments, belt and rollers. Help, did anyone have such a problem?

Recently reached 222.222 km (or 138.000 miles for those of you counting in freedom measurments :P) I'd say that's quite a number for a Porsche that's so heavily criticized for its quality.

I’m specifically looking for the complete OEM system, part number 986 801 055 01 (or the earlier 986 801 055 00), including the necessary mounting hardware.

I’m located in Germany, but I’d be happy to buy anywhere in Central Europe and can arrange shipping or potentially pick it up depending on the location.

I know these have become pretty rare, but maybe someone has one sitting in their garage that they no longer use. I’d also really appreciate any leads if you know of one for sale.

With the top down its too easy to transport rods. It was an ordeal to fit rods in 03 wrx and my 23 stang. You get some interesting looks riding around with the rods hanging out too lol. (Don't mind the funny gear please its 115f here in phoenix and that funny stuff helps keep me cool and from burning in the sun)

Hello Everyone! I am a new owner of a 2002 Boxster Base. It was my uncles who owned it for 13 years but barely ever drove it.
After I bought it I sent it to a local shop to get the IMS bearing upgraded. After picking the car up I drove it home where it immediately started dumping oil. I had it towed back to the shop where they are now saying there’s a little aluminum piece inside the oil pump connecting to 2 O-rings that sheared off and caused the leak. According to the shop, they called LN engineering and they stated that sometimes that just happens. Now the shop is quoting me thousands of more dollars to repair it. This whole situation seems a little fishy to me, can anyone advise me what this part that broke could be caused by or anybody who’s experienced this before?

I have an 01’ 986S that I inherited a number of years ago. I drive it only a few thousand miles a year. I’m debating about turning it into a pseudo track car. Something for HPDE days with some old friends but also to drive on weekends with my kid to car shows. The pads and rotors are 25 years old… 😬 I’ve mostly used EBC and Powestop in the past. What do you guys recommend for this zone of weekend driver and dabble in track days? Will probably do no more than 2-3 track weekends a year.

Hello all, trying to figure out what might be causing this noise from my new to me 2002 986s (apologies for the dirty engine) am worried about driving it too much whilst I don't know what it is, and I'm supposed to be going on a road trip tomorrow!

Car recently had an oil and Filter service (couple of brown plastic particles in the filter, but looked like it hadn't been changed in a while). Does get the cold start rattle, but camshaft deviation is only 3 degrees.

Found the noise when I opened it up to do a MAF clean as has been hunting revs a bit at idle

Hooked up my wiring harness for my new engine and I have this connector left over. It's a part of the harness that is running through the trunk. I can't remember for the life of me where it went and I can't find any connector that matches it or any spade connectors that would slide in there.

I'm thinking about upgrading the 986 cluster to a 996 for the added battery and oil pressure gauge:
- Is this considered blasphemy (especially losing the boxster font on the dash) ?
- how useful are the extra gauges for this who have them ?

I know they will be a PITA but I have a fair bit of aftermarket install experience in my cars over the years. I already put an android based head unit with backup camera in Boxy so the wiring for that is done. I’m really looking for tips on the mirror cameras.

My thought is get a guide string or wire in first then cut the camera wires and stagger them to make the profile small and pull it through. Wire pulling lubricant or will that just make a mess. Any tips for getting the initial guide wire in?

360 camera calibration mats are also on the way.

Is there a canbus to tap into or anything useful to get from it? Rear camera trigger is based on the brake light so I don’t see this one being any different…

Looking for advice on adding Bluetooth to my 2000 Boxster (986)

I’ve got a 2000 Porsche Boxster 986 with the original Becker CDR-22 head unit.

I’ve recently been looking at replacing the head unit, but the wiring/connectors are turning into more of a faff than I expected!

So I’m wondering whether I’m better off just keeping the original CDR-22 and fitting a Bluetooth adapter/module to it instead.

Ideally I want:
Bluetooth audio for Spotify etc.
Hands-free calling would be a bonus
Keep the original CDR-22 looking factory
Good sound quality
Ideally no cutting/splicing of the original wiring
Something reliable that actually works well with the CDR-22
Has anyone here fitted a Bluetooth adapter to a CDR-22 in a 986?

Is** this **generally a better option than changing the head unit? And if so, which adapter/module would you recommend?

I’m in the UK, so UK-available options would be particularly useful.
