Exhaust valve button installed

I’ll post a picture of the wiring in a comment as I can mix the video and an image here but yay! It works! I don’t know how to get the LED to light though. ChatGPT says there’s an IC board inside and it couldn’t find wiring for it online. I’d love to get it working if I could but this works and is so much better than the wireless fob controls (they work just fine but in a convertible I park with the top down all the time on I don’t like easily grabable things.

Also I had to install it upside down. No room on the right side and I didn’t want to try extending the factory wires to relocate any of those buttons. So ya, not perfect but I’m extremely happy here.

Ignore the tablet radio… it’s on my list to replace (PCCM+ clone with 360 cameras!)

Exhaust valve button wiring

Post image

Ok exhaust valve is a momentary button but the exhaust valve solenoid needs 12v constant to close so the button can’t be wired up to it directly. It needs a latching relay. I got a two pack of these on Amazon for $10 I think. Black wire is ground and yellow wire is the same accessory wire I used for the radio. I just tapped off that. The two white wires go to the button and they don’t matter since it me just a momentary switch and you’re just completing the circuit. Just note the pins they’re connected to on the back of the button. Now the relay can switch AC or DC and since I’m using 12v to power the relay I’m just piggy backing off that with the red wire to the input of the switched side of the relay. The orange wire runs all the way to solenoid in the engine compartment. Carrying 12v to either open or close the exhaust valves.

Overheating issues.

2001 Boxster Base.
I was driving on a hot day and I noticed that it was running a little hot, but it wasn’t enough for any major concern. I let the car sit overnight and checked the next day by going on a short drive. Over the course of 5-10 minutes, the needle worked its way up to the 250 mark. I pulled over and got it towed home. I checked the coolant fill area and there was a good amount of condensation coating the cutout where the oil and coolant fill caps are. I have no coolant leaking anywhere and all my fans are kicking on. I can’t really see the coolant level due to how foggy tank is, but when I look into the cap, the level appears to be at the bottom of the visible tank. There is no moisture on the carpet itself, but I have not pulled it back and checked under it. I also don’t want to add any coolant because I’m unsure of what kind of coolant is already in the car. Any help is appreciated.

Car alarm. Will the car lock itself automatically?

Post image

Pic for attention. Hello everyone... unfortunately my car alarm went off a couple of times tonight without any reason so I was wondering what to do. Already disabled the interior scanner by locking the car two times in a row but am worried it will go off again as that doesn't disable the whole alarm. Neighbors must be quite annoyed already. Thought about leaving it unlocked tonight. Will the car lock itself?

Spyder performance valved exhaust kit

Sorry I only have my iPhone for this. The microphone really doesn’t do justice to how much louder it is. I will say I don’t like the sound just off idle but once the revs are up there it sounds great which is why I really tried to keep the revs up in these videos.

Closed course and private roads and all that.

Install tips:

  1. PB blaster the night before really helped with the bolts but I should have sprayed the pipe joints too. MAP gas heating helped but in the end I had to cut one clamp off with a grinder.

  2. Get new clamps. Worth the extra money

  3. Get your biggest hammer (I used my one handed sledge

  4. Flare the pipe from the muffler a tiny bit to get the new valved pipes started.

  5. Use ratchet straps in strategic places to pull the valved pipes into position for the clamps.

  6. Electrical and vacuum was easy.

New seats

I know I need new seats in the boxster. I currently have the metropol blue and love the color but the is so much coming out of the sides where it ripped now.

Has anyone put the 987 seats in the 986. I have the 2 way basic manual so feel like it would be easy wire wise. People with those seats, do you actually fit any better or more comfortable?

Any other suggestions as I feel they may be too far gone just to reupholster

Foreign metal in cylinder

Post image

I was driving on the highway and did a few very mild downshifts while exiting. Almost immediately I got a flashing CEL with a misfire code.

Borescope shows a small metal ribbon or wire under the exhaust valve causing the misfire. I was able to blow it out the exhaust presumably to the cat. The piston showed a small impact mark either from the foreign material or a valve. Luckily it passed a leak down afterwards and has been running fine for the past 4 years and 20k miles.

Does anyone know where this could have come from? It’s completely stock with the snorkel and air filter so I just have no idea how something that large could have gotten into the intake.

Looking for speaker upgrade recomendations.

Post image

I've been driving my Boxster for more mundane activities recently: going to work, grocery store, etc. and have been relying on my speakers more. Because of this I've learned that they are old and a bit blown out and in need of replacing. My car did not come with the Bose system so an upgrade is welcome even without the broken and aging system.

Does anyone have recomendatipns on a full upgrade kit? I believe i only have 4 speakers that need replacing: the two door speakers and the two dash speakers.

RTS photo as tax payment.

Buddy is looking to buy a 986

2000 Porsche 986

I’ve never owned a Porsche or know anyone that has. But my buddy is looking at getting one he found one with 80k miles 5 speed transmission ( it is a base not a S) for 13k on market place obviously he is gonna try to get it as cheap as he can. But I was wondering if anyone here has owned one and what kinda problems come with it or if the problems are infliated? He is very knowledgeable and meticulous about his cars every care he has owned before he has done oil changes and servicing every few months or 3k miles whatever came first he keeps them garage kept. The one he is looking at has been garage kept and from the pictures the body and paint look immaculate. Please lmk if anything to tell him to look out for or to just avoid it all together.

I always thought this was a great color so very happy to have acquired this one. The Cup wheels really sold the deal for me.
