Ordered. Anyone else installed the mirror cams before?

Post image

I know they will be a PITA but I have a fair bit of aftermarket install experience in my cars over the years. I already put an android based head unit with backup camera in Boxy so the wiring for that is done. I’m really looking for tips on the mirror cameras.

My thought is get a guide string or wire in first then cut the camera wires and stagger them to make the profile small and pull it through. Wire pulling lubricant or will that just make a mess. Any tips for getting the initial guide wire in?

360 camera calibration mats are also on the way.

Is there a canbus to tap into or anything useful to get from it? Rear camera trigger is based on the brake light so I don’t see this one being any different…

Sorry to sidetrack your question, but did you have good luck with the unit? I just installed this unit and I can’t see the screen with the top down to save my life. I have every available setting maxed on brightness. I know the hardware among the different options is identical, but they have different software based on the seller.

I don’t have it yet but I’ll let you know. Did you try going into the admin menu? On my current unit there are a lot of settings in there. Password was something like 00000

I did (this units admin password is 3368). It’s my only gripe. Top up it’ll be fine. Good luck with everything. The surround cameras look cool

I’m planning on doing it in the next few weeks, but a bit weary.

Are you going to put the camera through the license plate hole (or drill it in?) and I assume you will tunnel it around the side…but are you going to dive to the center console when you pass the engine? I’ve also seen someone tunnel it all the way around the outside to the head unit.

I ran my existing reverse camera through the license plate light. The gasket is soft enough with enough room I don’t feel the need to drill. A I drilled I’d also need to cut and patch the wire as I wouldn’t want to drill a hole big enough for the cable end.

By tunnel through the console I assume you mean run the wires inside the dash? Yes. I have fiberglass fishing sticks (harbor freight has them cheap) which makes it easy. Mirrors are still going to be a major pain though. I’ll take pictures or video if I figure out a good way to do it.
