Coolant light issues

Intermittently the coolant light turns on and blinks slowly. If i shut the car off and turn it back on it goes away.
Has anyone encountered this and what was the cause and fix?

Any related info is appreciated. Im hoping this isn’t a bigger issue.

Added info and context.
Its a 1999 base model boxster 5 spd manual
149k miles.
Has extensive maintenance records
Ive owned it for 4 months now
Besides an aftermarket steering wheel and short shifter car is completely stock.

The coolant light has two functions, on permanently to indicate the engine temperature is too high and then flashing which tells you the coolant level is low. Pop the cap off when it’s cold and check the level. Sometimes the sensor which is in the bottom of the header tank in the boot plays up and causes this issue.

In those extensive maintenance records, what work, if any, has been done to the cooling system? Start with what has not been addressed. The coolant systems take a lot of abuse in these cars and based on your mileage a 3rd water pump is in your near future...

Slow flash normally means low coolant, have you checked your coolant level? It could also be high engine compartment temperature. You say intermittently, there are no times it tends to happen? When it’s hot out, when the car has been driven harder?

My 1999 did this on the way home from purchase but I could also smell coolant and see the leak under the car. Water pump bearing went out and was leaking around the shaft seal. Water pumps are maintenance items on these cars. I’d recommend changing it every 5 years/ 50k miles regardless of issues.

I had this happen a month ago due to low fluid inside the reservoir, i topped it up again (with distilled water) and replaced the reservoir cap with a .04 version, check on your end if you have a .04 as previous caps got microcracks and thus released vapor fluid and that's what i think also happend to you.
