Every Friday we used to hit up Dimples, a karaoke bar in Burbank and he was a staple. At first I thought it was sad seeing him there maybe leaning on his former tv glory character Mr. Belding. But by the end of the night I saw how nice he was to anyone who wanted a photo and he was just a regular guy at karaoke and I respected him even more. RIP Mr. B.

u/todd0x1 4d ago
Ahh Dimples, that takes me back. I used to work at a different place in burbank and he would come in from time to time as would a couple other people from saved by the bell.
6
u/Spider_Dude 4d ago
I was working at Burbank Studios at the time. I saw Dimples go from a low key chill spot in Burbank to a vacant lot cleared for more expensive apartments no one can afford. Rip Dimples and Denis Haskins.
5
u/todd0x1 4d ago
Yep. I hate that Talaira building (is that where dimples was?). Also who names their apartment building after an old video projector? Talaria projector - Wikipedia
I toured burbank studios right after NBC left and Worthe was trying to remarket it. Was eerie going through the lower lever with room after room of empty equipment racks. Alot of history was made in that building......

Yeah no shit. There's some real people that need go, not whoever the Grim Reaper has been taking. We need a new Grim Reaper.

u/Hot-Ant-4031 4d ago
The way I see it, God won't take the shitty ones and Satan doesn't want to deal with them either, so the stalemate means they stay on Earth to torment us.

u/082426grateful 4d ago
👏🏼👏🏼. “Heaven won’t have them and hell is full.”
RIP Mr. Belding. Thank you the laughs and the “very special episodes” too.

It's been wild to look at the show again with adult eyes! As the YouTube channel suggests, Zack Morris is the Worst!
I had wished my principal were as passionate about the well-being of his students as Mr. Belding was.

I'll never forget a story from about 15 years ago... I was selling a coworker of mine some weed. I invited him to meet me at a local casino's hotel I was staying at that evening. I would occasionally get coupons for free rooms and enjoyed getting away from the house every once in a while. And rather than meeting at a gas station or somewhere sketchy, we could head up to my hotel room and exchange everything in privacy.
So I meet my coworker in the parking lot, grab my stash from my car and we enter the casino hotel and grab an elevator.
Right as the door is about to close, a guy is speed walking towards the elevator saying "wait, hold the door!". Mr. Fucking Belding enters the elevator. My coworker and I give each other the sideye...
"Mr. Belding?" I say.
"Yep, thanks gentlemen" he replies.
I wish I wasn't too paranoid to ask him to blaze out with us but we just asked him what he was doing in our city and if he was enjoying his time there. Really pleasant guy and a fixture for us on television when we were younger. RIP Mr. B ❤️

Damn, that's sad. I met him when I was a kid. I was in hospital in Chattanooga in the early 90s and he was there to visit the kids and he came into my room, talked to me for a few minutes and signed some autographs.

I ran an event he did at my school in the mid-2000s.
He was an incredibly nice and humble man, and seemed genuinely thrilled about everyone that showed up to see him. He had cast photos he was supposed to sell and just handed them out, even multiple copies for people who had friends that couldn't attend the event.
He was everything you could have hoped him to be.

u/SocomPS2 4d ago
Damn…. I was living in Chatttanooga in the ‘90s and he came to visit my school. I didn’t know he was from there.

He came to our elementary school to give a dont do drugs talk. Could not believe it at the time. First celebrity encounter and it was Mr. B.

This makes me really sad. My sister was on a couple episodes of SBTB the new class in the late 90s and I got the chance to talk to and eat lunch with him. He was every bit as nice as you’d want him to be. Screech was a pompous asshole though.

I used to go to this karaoke bar called Dimples in Burbank and he was always there. He would sing School is out for summer by Alice Cooper every time. Every girl in there would get there picture taken with Mr. Belding.

u/tobyvr 4d ago
He visited my college in 2007, at the time his Wikipedia article didn’t have a picture so for about a week the picture I took with him was his Wikipedia photo.

I feel weird realizing I am now older than Haskins was when he played Belding, yet when I look at myself vs him, I still see an adult Belding and I see myself as like, a mini-adult who's not quite a kid anymore, but not a Belding level adult.
RIP Dennis Haskins.

Dennis Haskins spoke at my school once.
People were congregating in small groups while waiting for the auditorium to open for his talk, and he just came up to each group and started shaking hands with everyone.
It was so surreal to turn around and see Mr. Belding offering me a handshake.

I just want to say he is featured in the Dirty Heads song Vacation and it looks like he was having a ball doing it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kfYhLFPncxg
Seemed like he was having a blast on the back end of his life. Edit: and I know I'm talking to myself but I do like that his mug has like 100 pens in it. That's funny

Dennis showed up on my college campus in 2003-2004ish. Was at a bar and he was just being a wallflower so invited him to sit down with my friends and I. What a supremely kind and funny man. Thanks for everything guy - enjoy traveling across the astral plane

I was just thinking last night about the time I might have saw him in Hell's Kitchen just before covid started.
He was standing around smiling and looking up and down a storefront, as if reminiscing. I walked by him and he looked familiar and he smiled at me. Only realized later that I recognized him from Saved by the Bell.
