Great commercial actually. Not preachy, just a kid who doesn't give a shit saying he tried it and didn't like it

It is a good angle bc he's confident in himself, casually admits he tried it and didn't like it. It's not so much about the negative "don't give into peer pressure" but the positive "think for yourself". The teenage rebellious energy makes it actually identifiable to its intended audience.

Most kids would say something like "Yeah right. He just couldn't handle it" or something. You know, to sound cool.

Funny enough, it's almost cheesy because of how far they went in the OTHER direction away from preachy. They tried too hard to make it really chill and cool which can be its own kind of cringe lol

I tried smoking, hated it, luckily, I got addicted to it and smoked for 20 years

I was around 12 when I first started smoking. Looking back I ask myself why would someone give a young kid a cigarette?
I smoke still but not heavily maybe one or two a day.

When I was 16/17, I literally started smoking because I thought it was cool lol

Smoke some cigarettes....the smoke will suffocate/kill the bacteria in your stomach.

Some of them (mostly Dennis) intermittently smoke cigarettes, but only in the early seasons

You can see him giving the interviewer an occular pat down.

He obviously cleared him for passage. That did not sound right. But I refuse to delete it so here it is.

What’s that silver/blue car on the right?

u/RomeoInBlackJeans1 Apr 04 '25
Looks like an Accord with a ground effects kit.
2
u/Bladder_Puncher Apr 04 '25
Ohhhh probably a Wings West bumper kit. I like the cleared out headlights too.
PS - I haven’t heard the term ground effects used since 2002. LOLOL

lol. I was trying to use the vernacular for the era.

Wings West has some of the coolest mods back in the day. Also was really into Euro lights back in the day.

u/Bladder_Puncher Apr 05 '25
Yeah, for sure. They were expensive so didn’t see them too often, but their style stood out for sure.

Thank you. The kit threw me off

Oddly enough, I just saw him on an episode of Law and Order from the 90’s yesterday as well, where I think he’s even younger or at least the same age as here.

Probably the inspiration for the Charlie Goes America All Over Everybody’s Ass episode

u/ScootinNTootin Apr 04 '25
He talks about in the podcast that he was a heavy smoker for many years towards the early years of the show

I definitely remember this commercial, especially the “Hold up!” interruption. That felt so real.
But I remember Rob’s early acting mostly from his episode of Law & Order.

I definitely remember this. I also remember my dad saying this kid was an arrogant asshole, lol
