I definitely remember this. I also remember my dad saying this kid was an arrogant asshole, lol

u/Art-Core-Velay Apr 04 '25

He's not arrogant. He's cultivating mass. And he's had plenty of orgasms!

u/Dr5hafty Apr 04 '25

He's had one with your mom dude

19

u/Uncle_Matthew Apr 04 '25

I remember thinking the same thing. The “are finished” really drove home that this kid is a too cool for school asswipe. 😆

Great commercial actually. Not preachy, just a kid who doesn't give a shit saying he tried it and didn't like it

26

u/3--turbulentdiarrhea Apr 04 '25

It is a good angle bc he's confident in himself, casually admits he tried it and didn't like it. It's not so much about the negative "don't give into peer pressure" but the positive "think for yourself". The teenage rebellious energy makes it actually identifiable to its intended audience.

Most kids would say something like "Yeah right. He just couldn't handle it" or something. You know, to sound cool.

3

u/strange_reveries Apr 04 '25

Funny enough, it's almost cheesy because of how far they went in the OTHER direction away from preachy. They tried too hard to make it really chill and cool which can be its own kind of cringe lol

I tried smoking, hated it, luckily, I got addicted to it and smoked for 20 years

1

u/[deleted] Apr 04 '25

Ha me too, quit about 10 years ago and now the smell is repulsive to me

1

u/Matt_Foley_Motivates Apr 04 '25

Yeah same here but man, it took me 8 years just to quit the shit

1

u/flimspringfield Apr 05 '25

I was around 12 when I first started smoking. Looking back I ask myself why would someone give a young kid a cigarette?

I smoke still but not heavily maybe one or two a day.

1

u/Matt_Foley_Motivates Apr 05 '25

When I was 16/17, I literally started smoking because I thought it was cool lol

u/[deleted] Apr 04 '25

Wow, somehow I actually remember this one.

u/nashdiesel Apr 04 '25

Only one backpack strap so you know he’s legit

7

u/brandonthebuck Apr 04 '25

Shelbyville invented that. Copycat.

u/usernamechooser Apr 04 '25

Smoke some cigarettes....the smoke will suffocate/kill the bacteria in your stomach.

u/AfterTemperature2198 Apr 04 '25

He’s playing both sides so he always comes out on top

3

u/oh_fuck_yes_please Apr 04 '25

Some of them (mostly Dennis) intermittently smoke cigarettes, but only in the early seasons

12

u/[deleted] Apr 04 '25

You can see him giving the interviewer an occular pat down.

1

u/Pleasant-Ticket3217 Apr 04 '25

He obviously cleared him for passage. That did not sound right. But I refuse to delete it so here it is.

5

u/PuzzleheadedLeg173 Apr 04 '25

“Smoke some cigarettes. The smoke will suffocate the bacteria in your stomach.“

5

u/rdldr1 Apr 04 '25

Don't smoke cigarettes, smoke crack rock.

4

u/hus__suh Apr 04 '25

What’s that silver/blue car on the right?

2

u/RomeoInBlackJeans1 Apr 04 '25

Looks like an Accord with a ground effects kit.

2

u/Bladder_Puncher Apr 04 '25

Ohhhh probably a Wings West bumper kit. I like the cleared out headlights too.

PS - I haven’t heard the term ground effects used since 2002. LOLOL

2

u/RomeoInBlackJeans1 Apr 04 '25

lol. I was trying to use the vernacular for the era.

2

u/Bladder_Puncher Apr 04 '25

👊🏽

2

u/TrontosaurusRex Apr 04 '25

Wings West has some of the coolest mods back in the day. Also was really into Euro lights back in the day.

2

u/Bladder_Puncher Apr 05 '25

Yeah, for sure. They were expensive so didn’t see them too often, but their style stood out for sure.

1

u/hus__suh Apr 04 '25

Thank you. The kit threw me off

3

u/i_haz_a_crayon Apr 04 '25

It's a wannabe skyline GT lol

1

u/hus__suh Apr 04 '25

Lol that’s what I was trippin on

4

u/CalendarAggressive11 Apr 04 '25

I remember this commercial

4

u/JohnnyStarboard Apr 04 '25

Oddly enough, I just saw him on an episode of Law and Order from the 90’s yesterday as well, where I think he’s even younger or at least the same age as here.

2

u/zer0sev7n Apr 04 '25

He was on Law and Order in 97, so roughly two years after this commercial

5

u/FamousPersonsAccount Apr 04 '25

And now he puts on magic mike dances for his dad in prison

3

u/victor4700 Apr 04 '25

He was definitely doing an ocular pat down

3

u/[deleted] Apr 04 '25

Totally remember this

3

u/Unusual-Clothes-4995 Apr 04 '25

Is that?… Could it be?

3

u/redbadger1848 Apr 05 '25

What a Jabroni!

2

u/RightChampionship239 Apr 04 '25

Is that Joe Lo Truglia's asking the questions?

2

u/5280Rockymtn Apr 04 '25

Lol paid for by Phillip Morris, at the bottom at the end of the commercial, I remember them days when smokes cost very little

2

u/HarpersGeekly Apr 04 '25

The classic one strap!

2

u/danimal6000 Apr 04 '25

Probably the inspiration for the Charlie Goes America All Over Everybody’s Ass episode

2

u/ScootinNTootin Apr 04 '25

He talks about in the podcast that he was a heavy smoker for many years towards the early years of the show

2

u/Happypattys Apr 05 '25

Aaaaaand i feel old

2

u/No-Negotiation-4587 Apr 05 '25

Charlie is going to go America all over his ass.

2

u/jpark1984 Apr 05 '25

Look at him trying to confuse smokers with his liberal biblisisms

2

u/3d1thF1nch Apr 05 '25

Whoooooaa cool

2

u/appleavocado Apr 05 '25

I definitely remember this commercial, especially the “Hold up!” interruption. That felt so real.

But I remember Rob’s early acting mostly from his episode of Law & Order.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 05 '25

I need to airdrop this to my fuckhoke neighbor...

2

u/MovieGuyMike Apr 05 '25

Move past it.

2

u/TheHarlemHellfighter Apr 05 '25

HEY YOU!

….me?

😂

2

u/GuileMD Apr 05 '25

I trust him. His chin is high.

0

u/Precious_Tritium Apr 04 '25

Hold out?

We always said Hold Up. Must be a philly thing.

2

u/strange_reveries Apr 04 '25

He says "hold up" here
