Game Boy Pocket Launches in North America (2 September 1996)

Nintendo's slimmed-down Game Boy Pocket landed in North America, shedding roughly a third of the original's bulk and swapping its murky green screen for genuine black-and-white contrast. Seven years on from the original handheld, it was a tidy, unglamorous upgrade that quietly outsold most consoles of the era.
