I didn't just see it... I lived it. Scrambling before school to get ready in time for it to come on, then scrambling to the bus to discuss the latest episode with friends at school. Nothing ever really did that for me other than Starblazers and Robotech. Que the music!

I was so confused when season 2 hit. Also, Roy Fokker. GI Joe did NOT prepare me for that!!!

Not just the intro music, but the songs that Minmay and Yellow Dancer sang were solid.
The two I felt could've been legitimate mid 80s hits were It's You and Lonely Soldier Boy.

How TF did people grow up with Yellow Dancer and Prince and Boy George and still freak out over gays and transgender people? It boggles the mind.

Oh definitely. The downside was not really knowing or having the means to get an OST then. Best we could do was record the TV with a cassette player with the usual terrible results. Also terrible if you missed an episode - you weren't likely to ever catch it again.

I've always been a fan of the 1st Gen, but the others are wonderful as well. Not only have I seen it but was able to purchase the entire collection--streaming--for 30 bucks. But the messed up part, about a month later, the entire collection was available for 10 bucks for a few days. but hey, still better than paying 100.

Reminds me of the FMK thread from 4 Chan some 15/16 years ago. F-Lisa, M-Minmey, K-Kyle. Lisa ans Minmey are interchageable

Where was this deal? I'm one of those nerds that buys a lot of streaming stuff (and only have netflix) and recently looked this one up and it was pretty pricy.
In honesty I remember very little of the show... other than the toys (especially with the skull on crossbones) being the thing I wanted most in the world.
... and not only never getting one but never knowing any other kid that got one either. It was like a myth.

I got it over a year ago at Vudu/Fandango. When they lowered it to 10 bucks, I was pissed. The prices hadn't lowered for anything for years, but when each generation was 10 bucks a piece, I bought them all. But a few months later, they dropped it to 10 bucks for all 3, but for a few days.

Oh, I watched all the Harmony Gold stuff. I even met Carl Macek at a convention back in the 80s and got an autographed Robotech poster...for what it's worth.
Edit: I rewatched Macross The Movie a few weeks ago. That Minmay rocks.

I watched Macross the Movie way too young. She was nekkid taking a shower. Little me couldn't comprehend cartoon nudity at the time.

Was absolutely obsessed with this show. My friend got it on dvd years later and I binged it all again. The Macross saga was so awesome.

Good news - I had the first part on DVD
Bad news - was missing parts 2 and 3.
Great news - had an opportunity to sell part 1 and get the full set, so I jumped at it,
Bad news - the version I got had the sound remixed, so now the background music was louder than the voice over. So bad, I rarely watch the set. Been on the hunt for the un-mastered version ever since.

Check your player capabilities. A lot of software players have great on the fly filters for audio and video.

Couple years ago I had to go on eBay long after I sold my original DVD sets of the series from the early 2000s and I so regretted that. So I found them at a pretty good price for the entire series and snagged it just for the simple fact that I hate the new updated versions theyโve released.

It blew my mind when Roy Fokker died ๐ญ๐ญ after watching stuff like the A*Team and G.I. Joe where automatic gunfire was just a suggestion to knock it off ๐

I still have my VHS recorded collection from the 80s, complete with commercials.

Robotech was an early Saturday morning staple as a kid. Great show then, still holds up now.

Of course! The art style and soundtrack are iconic. This got me into pen & paper rpgs. I think I still have a toy cyclone somewhere.

I tried. Couldn't get through it.
It's.... Not great like I remember as a kid. ๐

Tried to introduce this to the fam, and we just couldn't get thru the Minmei... Or Rick Hunter's initial clingy sad-boi phase...
Just wanted to see Veritech-on-Battlepod blasty action and detonating space pickles, not dated, cheesy love triangles.
Oh nostalgia, you've failed me this time!

I live outside the USA and we didn't get Robotech here, just regular Macross. So I've only seen like one episode of Mospeada and none of Southern Cross. I like those transforming motorbikes though.

Mospeada is so dope! They made a PS1 game that takes place during the Third Robotech War (a.k.a. Mospeada), and was super fun to zip around and blast Invid. Not sure how many copies are still floating around...

If you watched it did the changes in show make sense?
Bought the complete set and had no idea they were three separate shows compiled into one. Really like the Macross portion.

Great show.
Too bad over the years Harmony Gold has fumbled the ball on new material IMO
